Talk Talk unauthorised transfer of my IP who can ~I complain to?

Just before Xmas I got a call from Talk Talk welcoming me to their Broadband service which was strange because I hadn't requested it (although they have provided my landline for over 4 years). I rang them and they confirmed that an order had been placed on my account even though I wasn't in the country that day and they couldn't provide any details. I asked for it to be cancelled and was assured that that had happened and confirmed that I would not lose my current internet providor. Last night a big red light on my modem indicated no internet connection, of course Talk Talk had snatched it.
I rang them to complain and was told that because of changes Talk Talk had made in the exchange they could not support Demon internet and that this change was irreversable so I had no option but to sign up with them.
Sad I know but I like Demon and I really don't want to leave them especially as this had been forced upon me.
My question is is this a Data Protection issue and do I have any rights of redress elsewhere?

Luckily there's a TT rep on here, Emma, who should be along to explain how wrong you are, as TT don't do that kind of thing anymore

welcome ghostwheel i have the same problem as yours it happened to me as well 2 weeks before christmas.
first i will suggest that you do a cmplaint letter in writting and see it recorded delivery to talk talk probably with a Subject Access Request . but don't hold you breath they will not answered your letter i have sent 3 letter to them and still waitign an answer....
i have also included un my letter that i intend to take them to court also. dont bother with their forum they won't help you and will tell you after reveiwing this and that ......
i reported them also to OFCOM, the Office of fair trading which pass me to my local trading standard . now i am thinking to rewport them to Informaiton commisioner as they have breached my data protection i have proof of this and admission over the phone to hich was recorded ....
thsi company is awful and feel only contempt towards its own "customer", i must add that talk talk and CPW werre fined in January 2008 by the ICO for various breach of the data protection ......BSC number 1830 -

Talk Talk have some customers on whats know as a WLR2 line.
If so you can have broadbandband from any other isp as this a BT line resold by TalkTalk.
You have been migrated to fully unbundled (LLU) line.
No other isp can provide internet as Talk Talk own the local loop for your line.so you have to have the broadband from talk talk.
Your not alone Talk Talk are not checking before they change customers to full LLU if thay have broadband from another isp or maybe thay are and are doing it anyway. I dont know but this is happening often0 -
Talk talk disconnection
Hi I have a problem with talk talk
First of all it started when we rang TT to inform them that we were leaving as we were moving house and was wanting to going with another supplier.:j
Well we got told we couldn’t then they turned round and said we would be charged as we had not fulfilled our side of the contract as we still had a few months left of the contract.
Then they told us to ring back closer to the moving date so we did not loose service fair enough fine we can do that.
Three weeks before Christmas we got a letter to tell us that were sorry to see you go as you have asked to go with someone else?
So in turn we rang them to find out what was what and was told, “We sent the letter as you have not told us what’s going on”
We explained what was what and that we had not requested the change nor did we want to change (as the move fell through).
3rd 5th of Jan we lost our line?
So since then I have spoken to BT, as they are the line owners and TT but no help so far….
What can I do to sort this problem out I cant go to anyone else as the line is suppose to be dead (got a ring tone)?
Hope someone can give me the heads up on this.
Simon

Update: Formally complained to TT quoting the reference given to me by the Trading Standards. Next thing I know Caller ID feature which I pay £4.99 a month for got switched off. Complained to TT again but all they were interested in was saying the quickest way to get back on the net was to sign up to TT broardband i.e I was talking to a salesman. Now switched line to BT (who are cheaper by a few pennies for what I want) sadly TT will switch the phone line off on or before the 24th but BT can't connect until the 28th but hey it's progress.
Strange thing is I am rung up daily now by a recorded message from some Company claiming to be ringing on behalf of TT. It's obviously a sales call as they include a number I should call if I wish to be removed from their list. Not blooming likely I have a call screening box now and guess whose number is going in it!0 -

She only ever seemed to direct irate customers over to their own forums anyway, of course they have control over input there.0 -
