"This is a win-win for customers. They get a market-leading current account to make their money stretch further, and they also get to pocket £100," says Andy Muddimer, current account manager at A&L, which is owned by the Spanish banking giant Santander.
Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?

I can't find anything on their website*, but I'm sure it used to be the case that if you already had an account prefixed "Premier" you were precluded from applying for another?

I have a Premier Direct account (that I switched some SO's to last year and am currently stoozing a 5-figure 0% overdraft on :)), but I'm thinking about going for this offer as well...but obviously switching from a different account to last time.
    1. Is it worth a punt?
    2. Has anyone *recently* opened a second "Premier" prefixed current account?
    3. Although my existing account is credited (albeit for a very short time) each month with £2K+, might the overdraft facility on this existing account be placed at risk?
    4. What about asking them to match another overdraft (have an £8K unused facility on the account I'd be switching from), or would that be asking too much, bearing in mind my credit report will show I have (stoozing) debt approaching twice my salary?
    * If I've missed it, apologies for wasting your time. :o

Yorkshire Boy I think the last promotion said you weren't eligible if you already had any A&L account existing.

I would say to anyone looking to take part in this promotion think very carefully and only do it if you can put up with loads of hassle, I am currently waiting for my £100 which should have gone through yesterday and as soon as it does I shall be moving my DDs and SO back to my old account and closing this one, customer service is a nightmare, switching process is a nightmare as is the online banking.

    Thanks SJ,

I've since read the T&C's (not word-by-word, but searched the pdf doc for "hold", "one", "only", etc) and still can't find anything. Rang A&L and they said the T&C's forbid more than one 'Premier' prefixed current account, but I'll be beggared if I can find it!

I then went through a dummy Premier Current Account application online, and found they ask you if you already have a current account with them and, if so, they also ask for the account number. :o

Will have to check the specific offer T&C's when they're published on Monday, but it's not looking good at the moment.

Re your own situation, I only ever switch SO's for offers such as these and would never allow anyone to switch (important, eg mortgage, credit cards, etc) direct debits for me.

Best of luck with your move away.

    .

T+C from previous promotion from memory was not available to A+L current account holders nore previous current account holders who had A+L current account within the previous 6 months.

I'm ineligible (:o), but so will be a great many others, according to the offer T&C's...
This offer is open to customers who we accept for a new Premier Current Account or new Premier 50 Current Account opened through www.alliance-leicester.co.uk. Customers are not eligible for this offer if they currently hold or have held in the past 3 months any Alliance & Leicester or Abbey current account. Offer is limited and can be withdrawn at any time, and is only open to customers accepted for a new Premier Current Account or new Premier 50 Current Account. £100 will be paid into your new Premier Current Account or new Premier 50 Current Account within 4 months of account opening providing you switch all your direct debits/standing orders to the account and for Premier Current Account have funded at least £500 from a non-Alliance & Leicester account within 11 weeks of opening the account. If you do not have any direct debits to switch you will not receive £100. You must ask to use our Premier Switching Service at application stage.

    So, they're now saying:
    1. You must switch all your direct debits and standing orders, ie you can't be selective as you could on previous offers.
    2. If you have, or have had in the last 3 months, an Abbey current account you're ineligible for this offer.
    3. If you have an account elsewhere with only standing orders, ie no direct debits, you're ineligible for this offer.
    They've tightened up a little haven't they!?

    1. If you have, or have had in the last 3 months, an Abbey current account you're ineligible for this offer.

Means Ill have to ditch the Abbey account once that 100.00 payment has been received so as to be able to partake in future A+L offers.

I've just set up a magazine 3 for £1 direct debit from a savings account- and have asked them to switch 'all direct debits and standing orders' from the account (I have none other than the one above). Yet to see if they realise it's a savings account, but fingers crossed! Far less hassle than switching from my actual current account.

Would a direct debit to Paypal count?
