Mobile broadband: Get o2 3G Broadband plus Wi-Fi for £8.33/mth, via cashback sites

What's the deal?

Mobile network o2's 3GB mobile broadband package costs £15/month on an 18-month contract. For the cash you get a free USB dongle (the thing you plug in laptops so you can get speedy internet anywhere), 3GB included usage (additional use costs a rather steep 20p/MB), and unlimited Wi-Fi access at The Cloud hotspots (6,300 nationwide).

Yet new customers signing up to a contract via cashback sites Quidco or Topcashback before 30 November can get £120 cashback. Factor that in and the cost is reduced to just £8.33/month over the life of the contract.

How the cashback works

This isn't the same type of cashback as is often offered with mobile companies; with those you need to jump through hoops to get it. This is via specialist cashback sites that list retailers and product providers.

They get paid by the retailers if you click through them, but importantly, they then give some or all of this cash to you, provided you've registered with it, which is free. For a full explanation read the detailed Top Cashback Sites guide.

How to get the cash

Step one. Get a cashback account

Simply go to cashback sites Quidco or Topcashback, login and search for o2. You should see the £120 figure for mobile broadband transactions.

If you don't have an account with either of these you'll need to get one. It's free to sign up to both, but Quidco takes the first £5 you earn each year as its admin charge. So if this is the only cashback you earn all year, the total will be £115 (and you should probably use Topcashback).

Step two. Sign up for an o2 mobile broadband contract

Next, sign up for the 3GB download contract. Ensure you go for the 18-month, 3GB contract deal to get this price (the 24-month contract carries the same monthly charge).

WARNING! Cashback sites payouts aren't 100% guaranteed

As cashback sites rely on the retailers paying them, you can never count cashback as a sure thing until it's in your bank account. And occassionally there are tracking problems too.

Yet Quidco and Topcashback both know we're including this deal in the weekly email so there's nothing to suggest it won't work for the vast majority of people. Whichever you choose, expect to wait around two months for the money to come through, and at least a couple of days for the purchase to show up on their sites.

Get o2 Home Broadband for a further £5/month.

If you're looking for home broadband as well, it's worth bearing in mind that o2 offers all mobile broadband customers the option to get its unlimited (fair usage applies) 8MBPS package for £5/month. Since this package is £12.50 for non-o2 customers, it's a good saving if you can get its service in your area.

Stupid question, I'm sure,:rolleyes: but would this be the best thing for me - I'm moving to London very shortly, and we're then moving again in Jan, renting until we decide where to buy - but I'm doing a PhD and need internet all the time - but obviously we can't sign up for a 12 month home broadband contract! Can we take this with us (given it's a contract for 18-24 months) when we move (twice)?

I have a mobile dongle thingy and it goes everywhere with me and my laptop. So I'm sure you can do the same with desktops.

You just need to check postcode coverage on the providers website for the places you think you will be staying.

Lawrence - think you need to edit, if you go via quid or TCB to o2 site you can have 8MB o2 Home BB for £5 a month with the £15 3GB deal, thats £2.50 cheaper than a usual payg/contract mobile

free USB Dongle, 3GB & upto 8MB landline broadband & £120 cash back = £12.33 a month for both

it does not make it clear enough

Orange do Orange Broadband Dongle & Home Broadband for £20 if your not o2'd at your exchange, includes 'up to' 8Mbps, 10GB , wireless modem ( assume livebox ) with inclusive evening and weekend calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers,

great for BT Basic customers as the ability to make cheap calls all over the world is back in thier domain

Also if you monthly - sim only it on Orange mobile for nearly a month then call retentions, tell them all you can spend is £10 a month contract as you are on BT Basic and as part of thier T&C you can only have a mobile a/c for £10 a month at the same address, ask for a Unique Nokia 6301 handset ( www.orange.co.uk/unique ) & do you a deal, you then get Broadband Unlimited ( 40GB ) instead of the basic internet ( above ) for £5 a month you were paying anyway, 100 International Landlines, Orange UK mobiles & 01 02 03 numbers from your livebox & 30 International landlines, Orange UK & 01 02 03 numbers over any wifi connection that supports it ( 90% success for me ) FREE from your mobile

So £10 for a monthly, £20 for Mobile BB & Broadband Unlimited & BT Basic - thats a hell of alot of included value for £34.50 a month

improvements to the company’s fixed line broadband service to date (announced in September this year) with the company’s service recently listed in the UK’s top three ISP list for fixed line broadband download speeds by Moneysupermarket.com. Orange was also voted the top provider for ‘overall mobile broadband service quality’ and ‘best mobile broadband network’ according to a YouGov mobile broadband UK wide survey in October this year.

Max download speed looks like 3.6 Mbps. Does anyone know what the max upload speed is?

Im completely peed off, i have just applied for this and been refused it by the credit check!! I never knew i had bad credit, i pay all my bills on time, and now ive been refused thats going to make it even worse isnt it!! Grrrrr

This is a great offer. I have just looked on o2's web-shop and they are now doing their dongle at £10 for 1st 4 months AND giving away a free Sony Ericsson handset!!! That'll be straight on Ebay to off-set my monthly line rental.

The £10/month for first 4 months is only on 24 month contract and you can't get cashback for it as you have to phone to purchase the deal.

At least the Sony ericsson handset could reduce the monthly cost further. Anyone know how much its really worth? I can't find it on envirophone.

I just joined Quidco so am looking hard at any big cashback offers. Everything seems to hinge on the reliability of the tracking cookie. Is there any way to confirm during the purchase stage of a cashback offer that you are being correctly tracked? Is there any way to re-confirm with the seller of the service/goods that you did indeed come from a referal site and are expecting a cashback? It is a deal breaker if not.

Hope this will help. Personally I have NEVER had a failure to track on Quidco altho i know others have. However am currently in discussion with Topcashback over my first two purchases there that have BOTH failed to track. I can only say that Topcashback are bending over backwards to sort this out for me - won't bore you with the details but the problem arose due to my still being stuck with a dial up connection which timed out on Topcashback and hence things went awry. I would honestly expect Quidco to be as good if you had a problem so i wouldn't worry too much. The first 'purchase' through Topcashback was also a deal breaker for me if it didn't track so I am relieved they are following through fully for me. Good luck.:T
