Gym membership

Options
Has anyone had any experience of bartering for cheaper membership to a gym? I know a lot of my friends are members of gyms but have pay at least £30 a month but I am just not prepared to do that. I wondered if any of our wiley MSERs had gotten a bargain membership?

Any advice gratefully accepted!

Annie

  • depends on where you live?! Try and see if your local university has a gym and whether it is only for university students, and if it isn't, im sure it'll be cheap.
  • Hmmmm I am talking about the bigger names - I am just convinced that I might be able to barter down to £10 a month or something!

    Hi there

i currently pay £20 for a Fitness First Membership for a Full Membership ,
the trick was to go on the last day of the month when the sales guys need to make certain targets , they were practically giving membership away with a whole load of free goodies.

this was in end July , so i am not sure it was perhaps their end of financial year but i am not complaining ;-)

just call around and see if there are any end of month specials ...

    good luck
  • Four Weeks Gym Membership at LA Fitness for free !! - perhaps OP this is in your area?

As mentioned in the current issue of New Woman magazine, they are giving every reader 4 weeks' free membership - worth up to £64.95 at any one of the 66 clubs across the country. Then after your 4 week trial you'll qualify for a special New Woman membership from just £18.99 per month, 70% less than the normal full rate, with no joining fees.

A typical LA Fitness club has a pool, state of the art gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, sunbeds, aerobics studio and huge choice of classes. This promotion also includes LA Fitness at London's Waldorf hotel - which boasts a 14m pool and offers beauty treatments.

All, the details of how to get your 4 free weeks, as well as a full list of LA Fitness clubs, can be found on-line at https://www.gymdiscount.co.uk/nw. Just log on and follow the instructions. Terms and conditions apply, to avoid any charges you must cancel the direct debit within 3 weeks.

    Hope this helps

Wow - Welsh Dragon that sounds amazing. There is an LA fitness gym right next to my place of work. Thanks for that I will pick up an issue of New Woman asap. Is it the December edition?

  • Hiya Annie - I also PM'd you just incase you didn't see the reply. The offer from New Woman is in the February 2006 issue, page 175 although all the details are on the website: https://www.gymdiscount.co.uk/nw.

Shame there is not one near to me - on the same page was an offer to sign up to screenselect for dvd rentals https://www.screenselect.co.uk - get 5 free rentals and Davina McCalls Power of 3 fitness DVD free of charge, enter promotional code DAVINA when you register - - so guess I will be getting fit at home !!

Glad I have helped - best wishes and Happy New Year

    Debt-free and Proud!
I am with LA Fitness as a joint member with my best mate. She pays £60 a month, I pay a special rate of £34, which is comparable to my local authority gym but there you pay for classes and at LA Fitness all classes are included.

Plus I can go anytime with no restrictions unlike the New Woman offer.

A tenner a month is a tad ambitious I think!!!

Skintchick - shame on you! That's not the MSE spirit is it! Hee hee!

The £18.99 weekend access would be the perfect membership for me - during the week I do British Military Fitness. Check it out https://www.britmilfit.com
Not everyone's cup of tea I know but I love it!

Thanks Welsh Dragon with your advice I don't even have to buy New Woman - perfect! Thanks again. £18.99 is much better for my budget then £30 plus.

    Wave goodbye to the waistline!

I find lifting full gin bottles to be the most agreeable form of exercise.
