If you have an interceptor and soakaway on you own property you can claim £24 back from your water company because you are treating your own water supply. I known it's not a great amount of money but better in you your pocket than in their's. they wont nominate this information to you but just call them and tell them you have an interceptor and soakaway. they will then send you a form to fill in.
Hope this helps some people but i dont have one.

I think different companies have different rebates for this. I recall ons as low as £15.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have recently done this after a post about the same thing a few months ago. I did not have to fill out any forms. I just called them telling them that I had a private soakaway and they took my word for it. I was refunded 30.00 for the year :j

You will know if you have an interceptor as there will be a big tank somewhere in your garden.soak aways are not very easy to find.

  • I know we have a soakaway in the back garden because we found it when building a conservatory. Also obvious due to lack of chanel into inspection drain from the gutter. So I applied to Severn Trent to have a rebate. They sent me a form on which I had to draw a scale drawing (preferable by a qualified surveyor they quoted!) of all down pipes and channels to soakaways. Unfortunatley as the down pipe at the front goes into the tarmac drive before hitting the grass, I dont know its exact course and therefore I cant plot its postion on my scale drawing so I can't claimanything back as I have to prove no water goes in the public sewer. Life it soooooo unfair. :xmassmile
  • We got the rebate from severn trent, filled in the form and did a scale drawing, doesn't have to be done by anyone qualified just has to be drawn to scale, hubby did it. Severn Trent then sent someone out to inspect the soakaway, downpipes and drains. They are extremely hard to please as all surface water must drain into the soakaway none at all must enter the foul water sewage. It was a long process but all money previously paid was refunded. Our house was a new build and we got the plans of the sewage pipes from the builder. I think that severn trent try to make the process as difficult as possible to discourage you from claiming

I'm in the Anglia region and on their Solow Tariff. Don't know the small print, would need to look into this. Decided not to have a soakaway several years ago, because the rainwater does a good job of sluicing the sewers. But very tempted now after reading these posts...
  • Currently going through the same hassles with (surprise) Anglian Water. We move din in June 2003 so I'm going to shout for 4 years worth of rebate. I don't trust the muppets as they couldn't find our external stopcock 4 years ago and had to resort to divining rods, a mini digger, a thumper and 2 guys with a shovel to find the supply pipe. Eventually found the pipe and had to install a new stopcock.

I'll give them a scale drawing and if they want to inspect they can do the digging at their own expense - or take it out of my overpayments. :-)
  • you will get back whatever the surface water drainage part of your bill is for that year.

However water companies differ on how far a rebate they will give, depending on whether the property is new or not etc.
