I'd start being a little careful about the assumption of selling spares on ebay. While they are still selling fast, the prices are becoming a lot more sensible (for those who buy!).
I've seen quite a lot of Core systems go for £260 or so. Which once you add in the final value fee, listing fees (£12-£24) and any shipping you paid initially, you may not make much of a profit.
Still, having said that, maybe they'll start going up again

There seems to be a few people selling Core consoles at 300-350 intead of the previous 400-450. Anyone selling with any sense will hold their prices at £400 plus and sit it out. The demand in the week before and after Xmas will be massive.
Premiums are still most wanted and still command £550+ BIN (double retail) Sold my last one today for £589 delivered.
I expect cores to climb back up to double retail (average £420) shortly once all the cores from Game, Comet and Argos are cleared in the next few days.
(I sell cores with 2 games for £495 and business is steady)0 -

hmm, thats an interesting view. i was wondering the same. i had a spare one (had 2 platinums pre ordered just in case, got one but the other, from currys didn't happen. they offered a core instead. took it as i had gift vouchers to use up.) it sold on ebay for 320 and i was a happy bunny. turned vouchers to cash and made a reasonable profit. however the buyer was in the states and didn't realise i wasn't. so the sale has fallen through and the prices have dropped. do i hold on...or just sell for what ever i can get? i was really looking forward to using the profit to cover some of the cost of the one i'm keeping...
anyone else think the prices are likely to go up again?0 -
I've split the thread and moved the posts concerning ebay selling to the Ebay board as this was getting off topic in the stock availability thread on Grabbit.0

Really? I found last year that PS2 slimlines were going at crazy prices when folk heard there were shortages, a month before Xmas. Then the week before Xmas, the prices went down to Retail prices.
Shoppers will find that the week before Xmas is too near and will have either done all their shopping or think that they will not get it delivered in time. You'll Never Be Rich Working for Someone Else0 -
They will be deperately after these for xmas presents. I can ship these on the 23rd for courier delivery on Sat the 24th and im sure plenty of others can. Watch this space, but imo prices will rise the week before Xmas unless supply increases dramatically.
And after Xmas there will be people with money to spend to get one at all costs before NYE...
And then lots of people buying HD Plasmas and LCDs in the New Year sales and will want a media centre extender or an HD games console...
imo prices will start to tail off slowly from mid Jan.0 -

Yes you did. Im getting 495 for those without the memory card (which i resell seperately) and making a bit more on P&P.
As a rule of thumb aim for double retail on the console plus the cost of everything else (as they can easy go and buy the rest)0 -
I don't understand why there are such huge differences in price.
This core is selling for the best part of £500 while this one went for half the price just a few minutes later.
I may have a few to sell depending, and I've had local cash offers of £330 which I'd be tempted to take with both hands. If I thought I had a good chance of making a few quid more for them I'd hold them till nearer Christmas but I'm wary of demand/willingness falling. That and I'd need the money for Christmas.0 -
Personally if I could get £330 cash for the cores locally I'd do that in a heartbeat. Saves all the hassle of eBay: timewasters, non-payers, scammers, fees. Despite having the paypal buyer protection and confirmed addresses etc, there's nothing to stop a buyer doing a card chargeback in a month's time

If you don't mind may I ask where you're getting offers like that?
The premiums are much harder to get and the prices on these will increase in the next couple of weeks, IMO. Not sure about the cores.0 -

I've not sold on e-bay before (only set up a buyers account to buy a few psp games) so I'm not aware of scammers and the like, other than common sense. I've no idea what a card chargeback is.
The £330 is an independant games shop near me. The guy is selling them for £450 so he'd still making a profit (£120 - the same as me infact).0
