SIM4Travel - new 39p "daily connection fee"

It's disgraceful, absolute commercial suicide. I've got one of their SIMs and will now just run down the remaining credit and then throw it away. Going on a fortnights holiday will now cost £5.46 just to have your phone switched on, let alone make any calls.
I also think that the credit holding fee can't be legal as it doesn't make clear what these mystery fees are - 1p, £1, £10?
Sounds like one for Ofcom, although I doubt that Sim4Travel will be in business for much longer unless they change their terms.0 -
I received an email today saying the new T&C's will apply from 12th October.
I too will use up my £9 credit next time I'm abroad and then junk the SIM. I worked out it will be cheaper to use my normal UK SIM in EU.
The 'credit holding' charge is £2 every 30 days you don't use the SIM after 90 days.
The new owners are clearly not interested in growing the business!0 -
It's slightly ambiguous about the 39 pence a day charge. In one place it says it's for when the phone is used for incoming or outgoing calls or sending sms. In another it says no charge will be made if you switch the phone off when you get home, thus raising doubts.
The cheapest way to keep it alive while not in use abroad will be to have one incoming call within 90 days of the last one, but who will set themselves sufficient reminders?0 -
OH well thats mine in the bin, I just used up the credit on the one I have.
Anyone suggest another sim card company?

Sounds like 39p/day whenever the phone is switched on (£12/month) and from what I've seen elsewhere the credit holding fee is likely to be £2 per 30 days.
I got my SIM free from the Expedia promotion, but looks like I'll never be topping up with them given this sort of pricing structure. I was hoping for some exciting new products and a drop in prices (due to IP telephony) when they were bought by Truphone but it looks like they're just going to try and milk existing customers for all they can - can't see them staying around too long!0 -
I agree with Jim3nipples. I can't see them lasting much longer with these crazy terms and conditions. I'll be using up my remaining £16.13 credit on my jaunt to Spain for a fortnight next week, before they go bust! The card has absolutely nothing to offer anymore.0

The 39 pence a day charge applies only if incoming or outgoing calls are made or outgoing sms sent, as I've just confirmed by talking to customer services. (I did suggest they review and perhaps edit a paragraph in the FAQs).
So there won't be a charge only for the thing being switched on.
I asked what happened if existing customers did not like this change; they said people can contact them to ask for a refund.
I disagree that it has nothing to offer, for example it may be worth keeping a roaming SIM in the car for use in the UK when outside one's own network coverage, but when compared with the existence of a number of rival SIMs or main network packages, I won't be surprised if they lose some customers.
I'll make my mind up later, for example whether I'll remember to use it once every 90 days. I have other roaming SIMs as well, but I did like that S4T rates to mobiles are quite good, though now I have the same rate from O2 while in Europe.0 -

Absolute con.
Especially if you have been away from base and not checked emails recently with these new terms. From Monday I got a daily SMS message telling me that my previously-known-as FREE received call had cost me 39p.
That's it for me. It will be binned after finishing my credit. My 3 Mobile will be cheaper in Europe now.0 -
