Default Canon Pixma MP210 all-in-one printer £21.78 delivered after cashback

Posted 9 September 2008

What’s the deal?

Canon is currently giving £15 cashback on its Pixma MP210 all-in-one printer/copier/scanner. The printer currently costs £36.78 including standard delivery at Amazon meaning after the cashback it’ll cost just £22. The Canon cashback offer ends 29 September.

What’s included?

It can be used as an (albeit slow) photocopier and scanner as well. Beware though, it doesn’t come with a USB cable, which you’ll need in order to print from it. While Amazon also sells cables, instead check cheaper sites such as Ebuyer or Dabs.

Can you find it cheaper?

Currently a search of price comparison sites Kelkoo, Pricerunner and Shopping.com shows Amazon as the cheapest for this particular printer.

Before you buy though it’s worth double checking again to ensure this is still the case. If you find it cheaper elsewhere please do click reply and leave a message below to let other MoneySavers know.

Aren’t the cartridges expensive though?

That depends where you buy them. Buy in places such as PC World and this may be the case yet sites such as Instore and Poundland sometimes have cheaper cartridges. Also check out the Consumables Board here on the MoneySavingExpert.com Forum for sources of cheap cartridges.

If you want some off the web right now, electronics retailer mymemory sells the colour cartridge for £16.99 and the black one for £12.99 (please post below if you've found 'em cheaper anywhere and I'll update this).

Many thanks to MoneySaver FortyFoot for spotting the deal below. This post has been inserted into the top of the thread to provide a detailed explanation.

Yup-dont order it at the same time, youl probably find a cheaper one elsewhere.
Great little printer/copier, but when u come to get the Ink cartrdiges, thelyll cost u more than the printer. (you could always but several in different names) not very green, thou.
Dont forget to go thru "Cashback Shopping" to get a few more pennies off!

Well its only £1.79 for one on Amazon so you may as well get that, won't have to pay postage either when ordering with the printer. Doubt you will get one any cheaper than that by time you pay postage elsewhere and they will be over £10 in the shops.

Default Cheaper USB leads, £1 or less

Poundland and the £1 shops sell usb cables for guess what (£1 ) and I think Home bargains had a pack of 3 very cheap (£1.99ish I think). Actually 3 for 99p at HB, they have some cheap HDMI cables too

Don't be conned into buying expensive USB cables.

Not crafty, as you are buying from two different places.
The printer is sold by Amazon and the cable is from an independant trader that advertises in Amazon Market Place. They usually advertise cheap prices that are loaded by high compulsory postage charges, a bit like Ebay sellers.

MSE member "fwor" has put a post on the Tech forum indicating that high street shops do refill these and reset the chip -

"However, I asked my local refilling shop before buying the printer if they reset the print level after refilling and they gave an unequivocal "yes"."

More information from fwor in post #10 HERE

Ask them before you buy.

Smile Ebuyer could be cheaper if buying something else

£31.99 inc vat so if you buy something else to make it over £50 then you get free delivery. So if you deduct the £15 cash back then it will cost only £16.99 for the printer. Ebuyer even have a link to the application form which you can print out using your new printer.

I would suggest you also get a suitable USB cable as it doesn't have one in the box:

They sell the cartridges too but you might be able to get these cheaper elsewhere:

Hey?
You're spending £50 to get free postage how does that make sense?

I bought a Canon Pixma Mp460 at Xmas (bargain(!)£25 at Argos.

By the time I needed to replace cartridges there had apparently been a software update arranged between Canon and Windows which prevents any cartridges (chipped/unchipped/refilled) being recognised.

I was told by Cartridge World they no longer refill the PG 40/41 (compatibles still widely on sale on the internet) since they are more often than not unusable. (I tried them anyway - its true)

My only option is to buy a Canon product

A replacement set of genuine b/w and colour Canon cartridges in a store is £34.99. I can buy - at at least 2 stores this week (Rayman/Staples) a NEW equivalent printer complete with cartridges for £39.99.

To me this is almost immoral - the throwaway printer?? Companies who promote this with overinflated cartridge prices should be charged massive landfill tax!

Anyway - my recommendation - dont buy!

Just a word of warning - read some of the customer reviews of this printer on the Amazon website itself. Several people are not pleased with the printer's performance, and the problems seem to extend further than to it just being slow.

Although it is cheap, if you need to replace it in 12 months it'd be false economy to buy it. It's a case of getting what you pay for.

Make sure you do decent research, both on the Amazon website and computer-specialist websites, before purchasing.

The Canon Pixma IP4500 is a much better rated printer and has higher consumer ratings for overall usage.

Also, if you don't have to have a scanner/copier, try the highly rated HP Laserjet P1005 at Amazon.
