Update 11 Sept: The £9 sale has now finished, although £19 rooms are still available.

What's the deal?

Budget hotel chain Travelodge is selling 50,000 rooms across the UK for a mere £9 per night, starting on Thursday 4 September.

It currently has a £19 sale - which will continue too - so, with the usual price of these rooms between £29 and £59, it's a super way to stay away from home on the cheap.

You must book before 21 September (though I'd be gobsmacked if any £9 rooms are still available by then - I'd expect them to sell out by this weekend) and stays must be between 1 Dec '08 and 22 Feb '09.

What are Travelodge rooms like?

They're clean, functional and do the job. This is about the thirteenth travelodge deal that MoneySavers have jammed in and there's usually extremely good feedback from those who've taken part, though there are some concerns it has a deliberate 'overbooking' policy, but most MoneySavers don't report problems.

What you need to do

Both £9 and £19 rooms are on sale right now, and there seems to be a very good range of locations and dates, although this is likely to dwindle fast. Use Travelodge's room search to find a date and hotel where one of these cheap rooms are available. Be aware, they must be paid for in advance, are non-refundable and you must book at least 21 days before arrival.

Hotels in popular areas such as London and the coast will probably have limited availability, but if you're lucky enough to nab one please post the details below so other MoneySavers may be able to benefit.

No, in the past it has offered £9 room sales; but these tend to be once a year at most and not over the summer, so this is still a dirt cheap deal. Any new promotions Travelodge or other cheap hotel chains offer in the future will be included in the weekly email.

Theyre usually there for the summer but obviously go quicker, ive had two 6 day periods in June and 2x5 days in August this summer,but youve got to be quick...and not very choosy...but at this price...who cares where you go....and over the last three years ive been all over the country for £9 a night....Kent to Cotswolds, Norfolk to Cumbria, Wales to Scotland, Durham to London...all minimum 3 nights, but mostly 7,

There's a great Travelodge just at the end of the M6 in Cumbria, only around 5 miles to Carlisle and 2 miles to Gretna. Hopefully I will be able to book in there to do some bargain Xmas shopping at Gretna Outlet Village

Ive just had an email from Travelodge.............the £9 sale starts at 6am tomorrow.........but you'll be lucky if u can get logged on to their site, its usually so busy......Rooms available from December to February.....

I have booked 3 nights in the centre of Edinburgh for £29 a night for my birthday next year. I think the normal price was £71 a night. For my husbands 40th last christmas I had 3 night booked in London (5 mins walk from Euston station) only cost £78. I like travelodge becuse you know what you are getting and the rooms are clean.

The only problem i have with travelodge is parking, if you cant get a hotel with on site parking, the parking costs cancel out any savings you make on the room. Especially in Edinburgh the Haymarket hotel is impossible to park near, cheaply anyway.

I'm a regular Travelodge user and would like to share a few tips with you all.

First of all, look into parking charges before you book. Some hotels have (limited) free spaces - usually the ones just off the motorway - others, however, have none at all. In Bristol central and Manchester Airport, for example, there are multi-storeys close by which are both operated by a private company and there is an overnight charge. If you're on a strict budget this is quite a consideration. At present, if you choose the Eastbourne Travelodge, which is on the seafront you can park free but the council is introducing street charges from the end of October.

Be aware that the satnav postcodes are not always reliable so make sure you have the telephone number of the hotel with you!

Check out National Trust venues in your chosen location. If you have family membership they're great places to take the kids.

Go prepared with items for food preparation. Paper plates, a knife to make sandwiches with etc. You can buy cereal or croissants in local supermarkets which save a fortune on breakfast. The cups provided are tiny so you may want to take your own. If you're a fresh coffee nut (like me) then take a box of those individual coffee filters - i.e Rombouts or supermarket own brand.

If you're taking a laptop then include a few DVDs to watch on nights in.

Go to your local library and rent out some books on CD for the journey. It's free!

Before you go, it's worth doing a search of local venues and taking a list.

Watch Martin's site for BOGOF restaurant vouchers and take them with you (having first made a note of the addresses). Last time we went away we went twice to Pizza Express and to La Tasca. It meant we could afford to have nice holiday meals without spending a fortune.

I've always been a big fan of the Covent Garden one, just because if you can get the cheap rooms (usually £29 rooms are only available on Sundays and you have to book months in advance) then the location is amazing. You just can't get a hotel in that location for anything near £30, so it's a huge bargain.

Yes Covent Garden is nice, and youre correct re price...We won some tickets to see Queen at Hyde Park....although the freebies i scrounged to watch REM the next night were better....We stopped(free) in the Covent Garden Hotel....whose tariff at the time was £353 a night..

Weve stayed at Docklands for £70 for a week(normally £70 a night)...left the car there all week(free) and bought a weekly tube ticket to the City....

Stayed at the Nuneaton one. Smelly, rusted bath furniture, melamine torn off and not mended, bed broken, complaint ignored AND £3.00 compulsory parking fee per night. Told it's going to all with parking. Site says nothing when booking. Avoid, can't stand deceit!!
