DON'T signup with CreditExpert

I signed up with CreditExpert to get my free credit report (as advised by Martin). I then cancelled this with 7 days before the 30 day free period ended. However CreditExpert cancelled this on day 31, and therefore charged me £6.99 for this service.

My advice don't signup with CreditExpert. Just order your £2 report via the post.

  • how did you cancel? online / by post? best contact them asap fr refund if you can prove when you pulled out.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • mmm,

I signed up and cancelled within 7 days by phone and had no problems, they did not ask any questions and cancelled, easy to get through and they was very polite and did not haggle me to try and product or services.. I would register with them again and get another free trial if i can, but i find it expensive monthly subscription.

I emailed them with 7 days to go. They asked me to call during office hours, which I could not do. So I emailed them again, this time they waited until the free 30 days had ended.

So you had a week to go, they asked you to call them to cancel (as it's something that needs to be done over the phone), you never and you are suprised that they charged you for the subscription?

    Ermmm... :T

I have to agree with theanalyst (last post)

Is is annoying when people tell others not to use a company simply because THEY screwed up!

The original poster, Credit-card-tart, signed up for a months trial, the conditions of which were that to be free required cancellation within a month.

The person waited until the last week and emailed the company who told them to ring during office hours which credit-card-tart didn't do and just sent an email again despite having been asked to phone not email!

So, the company charges for the service and somehow "IT'S THE COMPANY'S FAULT - DON'T USE THEM!!"

Well if CCT had done as requested, there would have been no charge

Maybe CCT should learn to take responsibility for their own actions or, in this case, inaction!

I signed up for the free trail and I had no problems cancelling over the phone, it only took a couple of minutes and was cancelled straight away - I tried to log in to make sure it was cancelled and it was. No problems at all.

i also had no problems cancelling
QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D
  • I had no problems cancelling either, though i did use it awhile back, even still it was cancelled right away over the phone, then tried to log in and couldn't.

This to me is a simple case of people assuming that because emails are a convient way of contacting people that the receiver is going to read the email asap and instantly do what the email says.

It's more basic than that. Why on earth people sign up to things without reading the T&C's continues to baffle me...
    Cancellation and Refunds

7c. Your cancellation must be communicated by contacting our Customer Service department by telephone (see Contact Details).
It's even a freephone number!...and open Saturday 09.00 - 13.00 because there will always be those who say "They asked me to call during office hours, which I could not do". :)
  • I also signed up and cancelled no problem whatsoever. And I was grateful to have signed up (Thanks, Martin), as I found I was £12 in credit on an old card! So I was £12 up and had the reassurance that my credit was fine.

The point is not to do everything Martin suggests! Everyone has responsibility for his/her own finances. I have learned that £5 off £30 in Tesco is not for me, as I battle to spend £30 in one supermarket shop! So if you were unable to phone to cancel at work, then don't go for it.

Good luck with other things, however. Through the website I have 'made' about £1000 (£630 on Quidco alone) since discovering the site in October 2007.
