Freeview box but no picture

Options
hi

I live in a freeview area, just moved in. Installed my freeview box to the tele and whilst I can see the list of channels to choose from the mini screen within the picture is black. When I select okay to choose a channel to watch, nothing happens. Is my box likely to be faulty or could I have a dodgy aerial in the new house that needs updating? I'm new to this stuff having moved from a previously freeview free area.

Any ideas please?

i take it you did rescearch for channels???

are you sure there is an aerial on the roof???

does it say you have (example) 80 channels when you did the new search??

when my dad moved into his new house the previous owners had removed a splitter box from the aerial so could be they have disconnected the aerial somewhere

I don't understand what you mean by research for channels?

I plugged it in and on channel zero on my tv, this green menu comes up with about 75 channels listed down the left hand side of the screen. Over to the right is a blank black box (presumably where a mini version of the channel should show). When I scroll down the channel list nothing appears in the little black box adn when I click OK on the freeview remote, nothing happens....

How do you research for channels?

    Thanks

go into setup menu and auto tune the freeview box again

Don't know which area you live in, but down here in the southwest as from last week, some of the freeview boxes wont't tune in anymore. There was an item about it on the local news, this link will take you to the story.

I have got one of the original ON-DIGITAL boxes and that picks up all channels ok.

Try your TV without the Freeview receiver connected, see if you get a picture on Analogue ( normal ) TV.

Just plug your aerial straight in to the TV to try this.

Re-tuning, that'l be fun as I don't have the instruction for the box - someone gave it to me so only have box and remote and no previous history of using these things.

I'll see what I can do but might just call an tv specialist to come have a look. More expense when just moved in!

NOOOOOO on your remote it will have a button that says menu press that.......then on your screen you will have options choose the one that says something like setup

then just select auto tune or retune its really that simple

Thanks for the encouragement, I will try that first.

My house aerial looks knackered though and is currently pointing towards the roof rather than the sky!!!!!

I'll try that tonight, thanks again.

erm thats probably your problem then.....have a look at other house aerials and see which way they are pointing

then get your fella to get up there and move it
