Hi
First time post, need some advice please. I've been using Skycard for the past 4-5 months taking advantage of their 6 month interest credit free period and just rang their customer services to change direct debit from minimum to full payment to clear the outstanding balance as moving to morgan stanley as better cashback deal.
Asked for the outstanding balance which was roughly £2,500 more than I knew the correct amount was. I last used the card on 24 Sep but was told that since 1 Oct someone has been withdrawing cash from ATM machines in London and Coventry areas totalling £2,500. Sky cancelled the card and told me to highlight any of the items on the bill I don't recognise when the bill arrives, should be couple of days time.
The card has not been stolen nor left my sight and I am looking at the thing right now. Don't understand how this has happened. Have written letter to Sky today saying have cancelled bank dd and will pay the my correct balance when the bill arrives and trust that they will recognise that the outstanding balance is nothing to do with me.
I am very disappointed that they did not recognise this dramatic change in my spending habits, gone from spending £800 in 4 months to £2,500 in 12 days! Plus I have never (with any credit cards) withdrawn cash from a cash point.
Anyone else been in a similar position?
Am v p*ssed off!
Thanks for your help

So you've been cloned then. This can happen under the counter at the garage, or when a waiter walks off with you card.
It is pretty bad that the spending patterns weren't noticed however it does sound like they are being helpful putting things right0 -
Do you really think people are employed at credit card companies to watch people's spending patterns?
Lima I would make sure you continue to pay the minimum payment on your card until your balance is zeroVal0 -

I know they're employed to look at the spending patterns highlighted by their computers & identify (potentially) fraudulent transactions.0 -
Someone took the money.
You say it was not you.
I believe that to be true.
It might not be true.
If it was not you.
You might know who it was.
I believe that you do not know who it was.
I hope it works out right................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
A`couple of years ago I made a series of large purchases one after the other on my First Direct credit card, all part of my market research work. Within 2 days I got a call to ask whether I had been making certain purchases, and all was clarified.
A few months ago I stupidly forgot to charge my mobile so the battery went flat while I was miles away around London. Had to make a few calls and used credit card in public phones. Not OS, take my word for it!
The same evening I was called by a First Direct employee who needed to check some anomalous transactions.
Sometimes somebody IS on the ball, and it gives me real pleasure to acknowledge it.
Good luck lima, hope your credit card provider puts it right for you as it is plain that you are in no way at fault.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
SKycard is owned by Barclaycard. They are on the ball and if you are pulling a fast one they will catch you out. However it appears your card has been cloned and let this be a lesson to us all to always be on guard.0

Thanks for those of you who offered a positive reply. Yes I do believe that someone is employed to watch out for changes in spending habits, afterall it is in their interest to do so because I assume they will be footing the bill when finding out I am not at fault.0

They absolutely are!
My IF (intelligent Finance) Visa card was used by me 3 times in one day once (this was very rare as I only really used it about 3 times a week, and never more than once a day) and on the third attempt they blocked the transaction in Curry's and made the cashier call to authorise the sale.
When I asked them why, they said that they had been monitoring my usage as a they do withh ALL customers and that as it was an abnormality they blocked the transaction to protect me.

That was a lovely poem Robert, brought tears to my eyes
