But this is a book club and does require further purchases - am I right?

Just spotted that myself. You need to purchase 1 further book in 6 months from them.

  • From their terms and conditions:
"As a member of bol.com, all we ask is that you buy at least one more book from us within the first six months of your membership. We will not send you anything you have not ordered, and we don't ask you to decline anything either."

I am not sure if you can buy more than 1 book in your first order to fulfill this commitment, but buying 1 more book within 6 months shouldn't be a problem for most people (especially with Christmas coming up) - they have 60% off bestsellers and they have 'free delivery on all orders' offers every 2nd month or so. Plus if you go via the cashback sites the cashback would pay for your 2nd book (and possibly your first one too if it's one of the cheaper ones).

Just noticed the cashback on greasypalm for new customers is £6. I have spotted 2 books. Might order each one is seperate orders..fulfilling their criteria.

When I used to be a member (years ago, just after they was takn over by the book club) What you ordered when joining did not count as further oreders. Then I went back to order another book and when you log in you go to a different site where the books are not as discounted. Is that still the same?

I'll let you know as soon as I find out. I saw your post after I'd 'done the deed'. So I've sent them a quick email asking for confirmation that I've fulfilled my commitments to them.

Don't think so - I first ordered from them over a year ago and see the same prices and same site whether I log in as a member or not.

  • Went for it. Used Greasypalm, let's hope the 1 book commitment is not too onerous.

Looking forward to reading Danny Wallace.

    Thanks to the OP.

    hi,
i've used bol for years, they are always the cheapest for books, if they have them in stock. unfortunately they don't have a wide range, mostly best sellers. to be honest buying one more book probably isn't going to be a problem. i bet you go on there and end up finding half a dozen books you want. i always end up buying 3 at a time (for free postage) as it's often cheaper if i want 2 books ( i might as well add another at 2 or 3 pounds if you see what i mean).
They do send yoou monthly emials, but otherther than that, they don't hassle you at all. hope that helps.
also, try danny wallace's new book, yes man if you like join me. also very funny!
