It makes me wonder what the elusive flavour is  This thread has sparked the 'war of the tiger bread' in my house. Half arguing in favour of Tesco's, half for Morrisons. I'm tempted to go to Asda and get some there, add some more chaos into the mix:rotfl:
    don't Sainsbury's make it too? ;)

Think the something that maybe lacking is vanilla:eek:. Sounds weird I know. Just thought tiger crust reminds me of doughnuts. So thought I would give it a bash and added 2 drop van. essence to a 15% ratio of sesame to mix. definately adds a background flavour that gives the crust a lot more depth and roundness.
now that's interesting, wouldn't have thought of adding vanilla, I'll have to give that a try too

The plot thickens! I've just tried the Tesco website and there are no ingredients listed for the tiger bread. It does give an 0845 customer service number to ring, but I think I'll save the pennies and ask when I'm next in store.

Bumping this thread because I still desperately want to know how to make tiger bread at home. I had to go against all my principles yesterday and buy 2 tiger sticks in Tescos because we have severe withdrawal symptoms after getting my Panasonic in October last year (not bought shop bread ever since). Oh man! it tasted sooooo good. I've got a batch of dough in the machine right now, but really wish I could make tiger tails.

Did anyone have any luck asking any instore bakeries?

  • If you are using a Panasonic, try my rice flour paste described in post #27.

Use the Panasonic measure for the two tablespoons of rice flour and two of water. If the paste is too thick to spread, add just a trace more water.

It's important to spread the paste on the dough at the right time, one and a half hours before the loaf is due to finish. And don't forget to set the browning control to Dark (D).

Let us know how you get on...
  • still no solution! i'm desperate for a recipe for tiger bread! i noted on wikipedia it mentions that sainsbury's does not contain sesame oil because of allergy risk but does say that other supermarkets has it in. it must be in there somewhere if its on the ingredients! this is a real mystery....

    Mmmm.....tiger rolls! :D

I've tried a couple of the suggestions on here, but it's just not the same :( When I have an online shop delivered (with tiger rolls of course!) the smell arrives before the driver gets in the door, lol. Then, even if I'm not hungry I suddenly become so . . . . I thinks they're messing with our minds - and tummies!

Does anyone have any recipes that work for this, kids are desperate to make some rolls!

Does adding sesame oil to the normal dough mix work, instead of butter or olive oil?

All help gratefully received, thank you!

Just been to Asda (in Kingston) and the bread was flat as a pancake, so thought I search for a recipe and make some and found all these comments.

I'm joining this thread and intend to experiment and get back. (It's the smell that gets to me)

    Wish me luck.
