Question for home bread makers - Tiger bread

Was just checking in to see if there had been any news . . . apparently not
You would think this wouldn't be so difficult with the entire WWW at our fingertips, lol. Here's hoping for a break in the information department soon as I'd like to be able to feed my tiger roll habit myself and not depend ASDA or Tesco to do so!

A teaspoon of marmite, teaspoon of rice flour and enough sesame oil to make it in to a spreadable thin paste (guesstimation is the key here) works well if you pop the bowl in the microwave to soften the marmite.
Hope this helps someone0 -
This is amazing, a two year hunt for a tiger bread recipe.
No wonder large tiger loaves are >£1 if the recipe is this top secret! I am determined to crack the code, after reading through 62 posts of trial and error it feels like everybody is nearly there, I would like to help out, hopefully we can crack it together!
Will mix a white artisan mix tomorrow so I have 4 pound to experiment with!0 -

This is the closet I've been able to get
this needs to be made 45 mins before the dough is ready to make into roll's
in a medium size bowl (needs room to rise)
2 teaspoons sugar
1 and a 1/2tablespoons yeast
1/3 cup rice flour
3 tablespoons seasme oil
1/3 cup slightly warm water
mix together and cover and leave to rise when dough is done and shaped into roll's paste the mixture on top leave to rise and then bake as normal
HTH
pamI didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you

The marmite congeals slightly so it needs to be warmed and some vigorus mixing needs to be going on, the recipe makes enough for a loaf and some paws but can be scaled down when needed.
My mum adds some sugar to her although im not overly keen on the sweetness.
Its just hit and miss tbh, once you have the base just adding more sugar, oil or reducing the marmite until you get the desired flavour. As i love the stuff i add a whole teaspoon which results in a darker crust but half will give a golden, also i ran out of sesame oil and had to use olive oil today but OH and the kids didnt bat an eye lid.
It not 100% identical, some may say its no where near it but i think its similar and very yummy0 -
Has anyone had any more luck. I have found a couple of other forums so I might try making some rolls. One recipe mentions Malt Powder. Has anyone tried this? Where would I get some from?0
-
Not me - hadn't noticed the marmite suggestion. Will try this. I think the paste of rice flour and sesame oil gave me the smell and taste(ish), but not the colour, so looks like I will have to go against my principles and buy some marmite
re malt powder - a search threw up kitchenkrafts.com - prices are in dollars, but they had some HTHNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

Okay I think I have found out why no one has been able to find a recipe for Tiger Bread. After a bit of searching I found out that although all the supermarkets call it Tiger Bread, all the cook books in fact call it Dutch Bread. I googled this and found a recipe on the third link which produces some good results. Here's the address:
