Keeping us in limbo, ( ie no letters telling us whn it will actually end) then giving us minimum notice is not a fair way of dealing with this.

For example what if the letter of cancellation falls on my doorstep the day after I go away for 2 weeks, but I'm still driving around ( or more likely parked the car at airport).. on my return journey I would be un-insured.

Perhaps NU should be more concerned with the 1000's of life policies that have ben setup via The Post office - most of which will be cancelled with 3-4 months ... hence making a massive loss for both organisations- and me as a shareholder .. and take more care on how their " marketing partners" promote such products - in a way to "encourage " these cancellations

I just got a call from Joanna at NU asking authority to do a credit check on me. I agreed, but I don't see why they have to do this. I have been paying annual and monthly PAYD premiums for years now, so they know there are no problems with my payments.

It was obviously my turn to be called today regarding the cancellation of PAYD. I refused the credit check as I pointed out that they had evidence of my payments for the previous 18 months and I didn't want a footprint leaving on my credit file for what could possibly be a worthless quote.

The poor chap on the other end of the phone then started getting quite anxious as I explained that I was certainly thinking about charging them a fee for cancelling my policy mid-term. He agreed that they would have charged me if I had cancelled mid-term so I don't see why I shouldn't. I also stated I feel to treat customers fairly, NU should be honouring the policies until expiry which would be March 2009 for me. He became quite quiet at this point and told me he would get someone from the PAYD team to ring me back to go through my concerns...

Can you tell I was in a mood this afternoon??? :D

My post #25 and the others regarding the credit check refers.

Hansi, can I ask how you are sure that his was NU and not a scam. When they phoned me they had no way of identifying themselves.

Becca, I used to work for NU. Your meeting started on 14/8 and unless it is still going on there is nothing to suggest that you are dealing with the issues arising out of this decision.

I have no grudges to bear, in fact I have many other policies with NU. However, they appear to have acted quicker than the brain thinks, and I am worried that I am going to get caught in am awkward situation shortly.

I have seen others getting alternative quotes, should I be doing the same thing?

Although careful cancelling policies yourself will make life easier for them.

• Hi all!

MisterNick, I haven't been in a week long meeting (thank goodness!) but I've been busy trying to find out details for you all (and dealing with some other issues).

This is what I've found out:

Because we know this has been inconvienient for you all we are trying to contact you and all of our PAYD customers by phone. So the call hansi recieved wouldn't have been a scam, and the credit checking is part of our new policy for installment payments (this automatically includes PAYD).

MisterNick, you should also be contacted in the near future by someone who will go through your new quote and your options. We'd naturally love it if you stayed with us as a customer, but you are of course welcome to get alternative quotes from other companies - we wouldn't expect anything else from a savvy Money Saver!

If we can't reach you by phone then we'll send you a letter, this will have a quote and our contact details on it, and the next steps will all be explained.

And Kimoffife - as I mentioned before, the offer of help is always there, but I do need some more details (such as your name and PAYD policy number and of course contact details) before I can do anything. These can be emailed to to me at rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk

I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to ask if you need anything else,
Becca

Hi all....firstly Beccus..I know it's a bit mad but I emailed you (late in the day admittedly ) on friday with all the above , plus a bit...... and received a call from one of the PAYD team just before your post above ....so thank-you for passing it to the relevant dept , even if they are unable to change anything my curiosity has been satisfied on a number of points:beer:

The lady confirmed a few things, including that my change of car phonecall along with anyone who contacted them , initiated the current cancellation / requote situation and listened when I expressed the thought that surely a new pro-froma letter would have prevented many of us feeling confused / misled.
She confirmed that the quote included all discounts, including a sizeable one for losing the PAYD service....her words, ....not my opinion:p.but then I have a choice I guess.

She did say that as a recent decision all policies are being wound up by end September and everyone will be contacted and when I asked about initial premiums ( to be nosy) she said that would be refunded " within the discount applied".

just had a thought....I wasn't asked about a credit check...does that make me too poor or just poor at remembering????

I do feel for the people having to deal with this, as others have said, the powers that be have made their lives far more difficult tahn was necessary.
