56 Nappies for a fiver

I completely agree. Different nappies suit different babies, like different jeans fit better for different people! And that is for cloth and disposable. I used disposable for first child, cloth for 2nd and 3rd with disposables for holidays. To give you an idea of what we saved, we spent £200 of Boots vouchers on nappies in the first 4 months of my son's life, then £200 on nappies and wraps which lasted till he was potty trained! (And I worked, so no excuses about that;) )nappies are specific to your own children
no brand can be said to be better or worse than another for this reason
for example someone posted above that they wouldn't buy Asda nappies again, yet we have never had a problem with them
we have generally bought sainsburys, boots and asda
we have always found huggies to be dreadful (but this doesn't mean that you will)
and we didn't think much of aldi's either
its best to try out different nappies and also remember that as your child grows you will probably need to change brands as well
We used disposables for a few weeks with no 3 and found tescos ones were just as good as brand names. (Just to show I'm not totally anti - sposie, they have their uses!)
ETA - and you don't need to boil cloth nappies any more, washing machines are fine!0 -
Hi guys
The best thing I can reccomend as a mum of 2 and a little boy of 5 months that still gets changed at least 8 times a day due to illness is Sainsburys
It doesnt matter if you dont like their ownbrand wipes or nappies as they sell al the leading names
BUT often at 1/3 off and then for wipes potions and lotions 1/2 price
That makes their own brand midi to maxi (which would be pampers size 3-5 £2.70p a pack
I use midi so thats 38 in a pack so 7p a nappy
The same size Pampers would be a carry pack at £4 so approx 10p a nappy
They sell pull up and all brands inc environmentally friendly ones
Their wipes when half price work out to be 56p a pack and are great. Again when these are half price all the premium brands are to so things like 4 packs of huggies wipes are £2.50p
This is a offer Sainsburys are planning on doing every 3 months so when they do I stock up big time on what I need including shapmpoo, bubble bath etc
Even things like sudocream, cotton wool are includedMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
We used Moltex Oko on DS1, but when DS2 arrived 16 months later we couldn't afford to use Moltex on both. By regularly filling our loft when Costco have their nappy offers we ended up paying around 6.5p per nappy for Huggies size 5's.
Boot's parenting Club is good too, we regularly get a "Spend a tenner get 500 points (worth a fiver) voucher from them. We tend to use these to get swim nappies or pull ups.
Cheers

I used boots own, tescos own, and found no problems with them. Found we had a few accidents with leakages with pampers.. but as you all say above, each baby is different and you need to work with what works best for your baby. I only buy pampers, when I can get them on promo, ie saving money, making points, etc. See boots sites on here for advise, I have saved money using coupons from pampers, promo at Boots and earned points.
Currently we are using huggies, as Netto in S Harrow had a promo where you got a box of 90 huggie nappies for £10 which worked out cheaper for me.
Although I am finding the tiny crystals when baby has wet the nappy too much, was wondering if this was normal. So maybe for this they are not quite as good, but they certainly fit better than pampers.
We found the active fit were no good, as leaks all the time!0 -
Our experience with both boys is that Pampers cope with just about everything during the day. We used Active Fit.. Huggies were OK (non-"active fit") for nights as they got older.
We tried Asda and Sainsburys but these leaked too much. However Tesco's active fit equivalents have been fine with our youngest. Wish we had discovered them sooner. They save us between £1 and £2 on the pampers for Tesco Super Fit Economy Pack Maxi+ (54 nappies), although they are still £6.97 per pack.
Would like to try Aldi but do they do an "Active-fit" equivalent?0 -
Moltex is I think the name of eco friendly nappies. I haven't personally used them but I know people who have. They buy them in bulk online, don't know the details.
For DS1 I used a combination of pampers and washable nappies. By DS2 I was using Tesco nappies (I dropped the washable ones by this time), and finally for my daughter I used Lidl nappies. She is now out of nappies and the leftovers I gave to a neighbour who thinks they are great and will now buy them.

Every other brand leaves crystals on my baby's skin. That's what they look like anyway, I think it's a part of the nappy lining which comes away when there's too much wee in there!
Tends to happen if the nappy has been left on too long.
I will be using terry nappies for my next baby, as I did for the other 3.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

We use the Asda own brand Little angels for our 12 week old son.
Size 2 [mini] 3-6 kgs pack of 46.
Cost for 3 packs is £10. thats 138 nappies for £10
cost per nappy = 7.24p.
these nappies have been great and we've not had any probs.
I think the cost per pack is around £3.99. Im not sure as i've always brought them in 3's for £10.

I've switched to using Tesco's Essentials (not Value) for my DS. I found Pampers and Huggies both leaked - they were great for my 2 older girls but after several sleepless nights where they leaked on my son, I tried Tesco's own after a recommendation on mumsnet.
Result - they NEVER leak AND they save us money too - about £6 for 56 ish, I think (size 4). We did try Lidl's own brand, but they were a lot less satisfactory and only a few pence cheaper, if that (slightly smaller pack).
Hope that helps someone with a boy who is struggling to find non-leaking nappies - it's odd they don't make different ones for boys v girls, given they need more protection in different areas..?0
