How ironic that this ponce has finally got his comeuppance.

Underneath the veneer of the celebrity on RR there does appear a decent individual.

A quote from the article "Two weeks ago a worker lost his job and was told to claim state redundancy and the presenter admitted he had been personally paying staff for the past six months."

Sorry should have made it clear, I mean "real work". Not poncing around houses etc etc, that's not work is it ?? He is related to a profession that is struggling, I don't think he will be worrying about J S A just yet

What classifies are 'real work' these days? Apart from doing actual physical labour, most jobs could be called poncing around (i.e. poncing around acting, poncing around in an office, poncing around a kitchen, etc).

Why, I've even ponced around building sites when I was working my way through college :)

I've no axe to grind one way or another, but I'd imagine that it takes a lot of hard work to get into the position where a major TV network takes up a project, a lot of hard work filming and making sure it appeals to the viewer and a lot of hard work doing that as well as running a separate business finding properties for people.

As far as that side of his business is concerned, as someone who has had to travel quite a bit as part of my job, I would be quite happy to pay someone with local knowledge a fee to do all the leg work to find me rented accomodation that's close to where I'm contracted to work, that's also close to a gym and also close to some decent restaurants and shops. It'd save me a load of extra work and stress when I'm already under trying to do my normal day job without having to do all that too.

As far as I can make out, his business was about helping people who don't have much time or inclination to spend loads of evenings and weekends to tramping around a load of houses, in order to find their homes. In all fairness, what's wrong with that?

Am I missing something? Is Phil Spender a member of the landed gentry or indeed (cap dully doffed) royalty?

If not, then where has all this 'his sort' and 'never have to worry about work' come from?
It isn't just at landed gentry level. It works at all levels. He will mix with wealthy people and connected people, his neighbours will have connections. He'll know people. People will call him. He will have people to call .... and these people won't be toilet cleaners, KFC workers, bin men and bar staff. Somebody somewhere will spot something he can do for/with them.

We think he's an annoying, bald t0sspot, but others will revere him, his TV status and the fact Krusty is on his Xmas card list.

Well, I'm surprised at you PN. What has Phil ever done to you personally for you to vent such ire? I'm sure there are plenty of other people we could vilify before we reached Phil. I'll start the ball rolling...

I'd say that the term means: unable to choose your own hours and what you do, when you do it, but having your daily/weekly schedule dictated to you by a boss, with conflicting deadlines and priorities - and more and more work piled on daily whether it's in your skillset or not. Watching the clock hit 5.30 and either having to fight your way through rush hour traffic, or wishing you could because you still have a shedload of work to do so will have to stay as late as necessary to get it completed.... only to find tomorrow it wasn't needed or the boss actually wanted something different (that he never asked for). To have to try to catch your boss and tentatively request one of your precious days off for something important, hoping the request won't be rejected. Desperately becoming anxious on your drive into work in case you are 2 minutes late (unforeseen circumstances) and you're threatened with the sack if you don't pull your socks up, even though you were there for free until midnight last night.

    All for £16k/year.

    You know, proper job.

    LOL/3. Sneaky slip in there!

Phil's just annoying - and I'm sure he's just of average intelligence. He often looks completely disengaged with the function he is performing and I feel doesn't come across well in front of the camera.
  • People on here have slagged Phil and Kirsty off but they made a good TV show which no doubt most of the posters on here have watched week in week out wishing that they could jump on that magical property ladder.
