Getting a discount on buying a new sofa?

Have you tried ikea? There sofa and chairs are nice and the prices are reasonable - and you know that the price you pay is not likely to be reduced the next week with double discounts and all that.0

May I offer some advice..
DO NOT BUY FROM SCS OR DFS. Basically they sell you a Sofa at a highly inflated price. Tell you it's interest free so you are tempted. The quality is poor at best. From experience I have had two from SCS and both have ended up on the scrap heap. I eventually got my money back.
To coin a phrase " Aint no such thing as a free lunch" and this is def the case with these two firms.
Please do your home work and go to John Lewis or Marks and Spencer. At least if you have a problem they will sort it out. I can tell you that both SCS and DFS have very poor customer Service and I really would not want anyone to go through all the hassle I have. Nearly TWO YEARS to get my money back.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED..0 -
I always ask about the cash price....a few of our local furniture places have "interest free" stuff but will give you at least 10% off for cash.x x x0

My last but one sofas were purchased after a day out in South Wales looking at all the showrooms. You can get to about 6-8 of them within the space of a few miles and you soon learn that you do need to sit on them and see what they are like to be confident with your purchase. I remember going to Divani, Sofa Workshop, etc. In the days when we didn't have 'tinternet I bought a sunday paper and the magazine had a backpage full of ads for them. Infact I think it still does.
Don't do DFS, I did last time and it's clear the sofa was vastly overpriced and although I loved it at the time, I know it won't last the 10yrs my Sofa workshop one did (and I passed it on after I'd finished with it and it's still going strong).Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
I've just bought the Isabella sofa from Argos. I got the large three seater for £500 and the small two seater for free. That makes them £250 each!
I was a bit worried, not being able to sit on them first, but they are brilliant. Really squashy and comfortable, and you can take off the covers and wash them.
Bargain I'd say.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
we are planning to buy a sofa and chair from Furniture Village. Has anyone had any luck trying to get a discount from them? Wondered if saying I was going to order over the internet might get me a smalll reduction because the branch might want the order? No particular advantage going via the website as they are not with Quidco.0

I saw a sofa and chair I liked in Marks and Spencer, waited until they had a 30% off 'sale' and ordered online using Quidco to get a further 5% off. Plus I can send them back under the direct selling regs if I have to.0

Haven't got much time at the mo, though quickly found a 10% off voucher, but sadly it's now expired.

If a valid one can't be found i would suggest emailing them with a link to the sofa and chair you want requesting their best price, indicating the amount you would like to spend.
You could also ask if it's likely to be reduced in the near future.

There are a few Marks & Spencer "discount" stores in the North West (one in Liverpool and one in Wales, I think) - don't know if there are any more in the country? These shops are really good though as they usually sell at around 50% if I remember rightly and do have a lot of choice.0

I got about 10% off as well as interest free, but we were spending about £6000 on dining room furniture. They wouldn't go lower for paying for cash than this though.
