  • Hello everyone! :) I am trying to save my money for a trip to new york - so count me in for this challenge! my very first challenge! put me down for £100 for March. I think the easiest way for me is to just use cash for everything - really makes you think about the bits and bobs that you buy unnecessarily! I also have a plenty of food stocked up tins etc that I could use. :T

    Welcome to the challenge leanne82duke!

LBG worker, I am sure a trip to NYC will motivate you to spend less; it is the most amazing city in the world.

Great ideas linz, I love the reduced stickers too. The trouble is, my local supermarkets are very mean with their reductions and you are lucky if you get 20p off. Gone are the days when we got loaves of bread for 9p round here. Grrr.

Even though I am nearing the end of the challenge for February, I will not make £100 this month. I have a couple of trips planned in the summer and the train tickets have just gone on sale for those dates, I have had to buy them now as they will only increase in price towards the date. It has meddled with my budget somewhat. Although they are essential spends so I can't do anything about that.
  • Hey everyone :hello:

Count me in for this challenge!! I'm currently paying both rent and a mortgage while I wait for my ex-partner to buy me out of our house so my finances are stretched beyond my wildest imaginationat the moment!!!

Can you put me down for £200 please? I know it seems a lot but I have a trip planned mid-month plus I'm moving to a new flat next week - although it is furnished I'm preparing myself incase I need to buy a couple of small extras for it. If I can managed March on £200 I'll try for a smaller budget in April!

My main plan is - like the rest of you - to use cash only, as I have a terrible habit of relying on my cards!! Will need that have a think over the next few days to come up with some money saving ideas!!
  • Hi all, hope you had a good weekend, and welcome to the challenge lonestarsky!

I had a very frugal weekend. I went to galleries, museums, on the ferry (free with my monthly travel ticket), to a glass blowing exhibition at the glass centre, had a lovely coastal walk and went to a free cinema screening. I brought butties with me and spent nothing all weekend. A real achievement for me!!

    :j Can I join please?
I've got nicotine gum from the doctor which I haven't yet opened so hopefully with only £100 I won't want to waste it on cigarettes!

  • Hi All

Can I join please?? I think I'll start with £120 for March. I have found so much help on the forums since having my LBM. I've noticed recently that even though I keep a spending diary I've slipped back into bad ways and the amount of tat I buy even when I'm trying to be good is silly.

I'm going to take cash out of the bank at the beginning of the week and as you have all said - when it's gone it's gone. I want to clear my debts and start saving for a new car.

  • Welcome to the challenge princessleah_ and meersy22, good to have you on board!

I have had to buy a few things over the past week so have not managed to succeed in my challenge this month, but it's a learning curve and I am heading in the right direction. Little steps! I am travelling down to London to see a show on Saturday (ticket and train all paid for) and am planning to not spend any money when I get there by bringing my lunch and tea with me. I already have some money loaded on my Oyster card from the last visit so shouldn't need to spend money on transport when I get there. I think it can be done; I will just need to keep away from the shops!! :)
  • hey warwick, been lurking for a bit!

    Hiya :)

I'd like to put myself down for £175 please.

This has to include about £90 petrol just for work (i'm estimating that because its the first month i've started driving to work), any food that I chip in for (live with parents) and pet food (3 hammys and a dog hehe!)

I'm gonna complicate things a little further for myself here... the money for food and petrol comes out my salary but the extra allowance i've given myself for fun stuff has to come from elsewhere such as extra work.

I'm loving looking for cheapy deals on things at the moment. I'm saving up to do a second degree with the OU and for a house deposit so i need all my cash!!!
