It does sound too good to be true. However, you never know... I got an old student job for £12 out of the blue, turned up, got hired, and did it for a good 2 years! Sometimes these things do just come up. Although in this case, it looks like it is a scam. Shame.

    Hi everyone.
I just wanted to add that I've also been contacted by this company. I wish I'd read this thread before I called them, but fortunately I only called them the once. I received another email from them today, which was also sent to a bunch of other people. So I emailed them all telling them about this thread and that it could very well be a scam. I'll also be reporting the fake company to the Jobcentre.

  • Hi guys,

I also have been contacted by this company with the same message

    HI

I can't remember now whether the original job was advertised on Gumtree or reed.com as I've sent out so many CVs that I don't know what I've applied to any more!. Glad I read this thread before calling. I've only had 3 responses to my CV and all three have been scams :( i guess there are a lot of people who are deasperate for work right now and people will take advantage of that :(. Is really bad though that the Job Centre don't check out employers before advertising 'vacancies' especially given their attitude when you go to sign on - I've only signed on twice and have already filled up my 'looking for work book' with entries and I was still told off like a naughty 5 year old for not using the job point last time I went.

As a warning to everyone, other scams to look out for which seem to be thriving on Gumtree are 'jobs' which involve accepting payment on behalf of other people, overseas companies etc.

I got the email and called the number. It has a message "you are number 15 in the queue please wait you are number 15 in the queue please wait you are number 15 in the queue please wait you are number 15 in the queue please wait you are number 14 in the queue please wait you are number 14 in the queue please wait" After about 2-3 minutes I gave up, put the number into Google and found this thread.
  • It's disgraceful how this sort of thing isn't spotted earlier by job websites, especially the jobcentre website, if it's been on there too. There's a few others that look similar - my rule of thumb would be that if it's a vaguely worded advert for something like data entry and the hourly wage seems very generous, then look into it first.

It's just exploitation of a really difficult job market and a lot of people who could do without this kind of crap when jobhunting is tricky enough already...
  • There are so many like this: before you do anything, Google them, investigate them at Companies House, look carefully at their website (if any), treat it as suspicious if they approach you first, and be sure it is a 'scam' if they want any money from you.

JobCentres really should be more selective.

Glad I saw this thread, they are advertising in my local paper. Thought it was a bit strange to find no details of the company online, no website or email in the paper advert.

I'm sure they will be getting quite few replies.:(

  • Hi guys,

I just wanted to update everyone that this Guy is still asking people to ring him on the 0844 number, when I spoke with him today he said
that they still need a lot more people in the Manchester and Liverpool areas said he would be holding interviews sometime in August.

The job advert I answered was posted on monsterjob site in June 2009
I have noticed that the advert is no longer running.

He sent me a txt asking me to ring him on the 0844 number but like
lots of other people the number is always busy and states that you are
in being held in a que and will be answered shortly I was only holding for
a few mins before he answered me.

I am not sure how the 0844 no makes him money I just thought they
were charged locally ..so how does he make money from getting
    the callers to ring him!!!

  • If this helps to nail these parasitic scum - we're a Newcastle advertising agency who were contacted by a Derek Hill of DH Data looking for us to research, design and and buy a reasonable sized recruitment campaign from the M62 to Scotland. Taking him on good faith we costed it out and sent our proposals to which he immediately agreed but went quiet when we asked for pre-payment as there was no time for trade references. Smelling a rat. we dug a bit more and came across this thread and others - don't touch 'em with a barge pole kiddies!
