The dongle came this morning, which I guess is quite fast. It's a ZTE MF627.

My 3 USB dongle is the HUAWEI E160G

    These may be "cheap" because

Our Review of the ZTE MF627
The MF627 is yet another low-cost, low performing USB modem. Like most of it's rivals in this price bracket, it's based on the older Qualcomm chipset giving lackluster performance. Spend a little more cash and get a faster modem, such as the E169.

Furthermore, in the device information it says
    SD card slot: No

My E160G can take up to a 4gig card.

I'm sure in earlier posts the discussion was that this 3 dongle DID HAVE a SD card slot in it
    Yes, found it.

the dongle also has a bit for your micro sd card, so you can use it as a data stick also

People shpuld be aware that a topup expires after 1 month AFAIK on 3. OK for regular use where you use up the credit then. I recently got a Voda dongle for occasional use, cos the credit never expires, you just pay for actual data usage. £40 price included £15 of credit. Maybe 'free' isn't always the best deal?

Whilst Vodafone may be cheap, I've found that their service is much slower than 3. They may have a select number of sites which offer a faster service than 3, but for many (most?) sites around London I still only get a GPRS service. If I'm on the move I'd prefer to get the pages downloaded faster.

we have a 3 pay monthly dongle and it is quite bad quality Im afraid to say our last one broke and even this one is n its last legs and we do take care of it but its soo bulky and sticks out too much of the usb slot

We paid £50 for the replacement so this free one is a good deal

Does anyone know if we can purchase it and use it as a backup for our pay monthly dongle??
