ICESAVE ISA transfer form question....

Options
I am considering transferring my NS&I direct isa to ICESAVE (Sounds like it's taking months though, so not 100% sure! ) ..... ANYWAY.... my questions regarding the icesave transfer form are as follows: -

1. "Date of transfer" section...... What am I supposed to put here? If; as I've heard, icesave do not back date interest, should I forward date this quite a bit because of the current delays I'm reading about on here...? Any suggestions?

2. "Sort code" section...... Would I need to ring NS&I to ask for their sort code; as all I have is my NS&I a/c number?

I would like to transfer to icesave for obvious reasons, but I'm still not 100% convinced it's worth the hassle; especially if it's taking icesave months, AND they don't back date interest.... HOWEVER, I would still appreciate answers to my questions, incase I decide to take the plunge!

Thank you in advance fellow moneysavers:money:

My NS&I -> Icesave transfer took 16 days or so, so not all transfers are taking ages. They might be very busy at the mo though.

    In answer to your qus:

1: Just put today's date, it is really only relevant for those whose ISAs have notice periods (eg Scarborough BS requires 30 days' notice).

2: No, just write in the NS&I details you have (i.e. your NS&I number and your account number) and if you like, make a note to explain - you don't need to enter a sort code as NS&I do not operate in this way.

    Thank you very much.. :D

One thing that does concern me a lot, is that the form you post off to icesave contains so much private and valuable information, such as account numbers, full name & address, national insurance number, DOB. If the form went missing in the post, and fell into the wrong hands, a whole lot of damage could be done (ID theft etc.). Could you post the form royal mail special delivery recorded even though ICESAVE's address is a PO BOX? At least this way it would be handled with more care theoretically anyway!

Yes ... if that gives you added comfort. Royal Mail know the expanded address and will deliver registered / special with 'second deliveries' to larger companies.

Do you mean that even though icesave's address is a FREEPOST PO BOX address; that I can pay to send it "special delivery"? ALSO... are you sure that royal mail will deliver to an address, other than the one written on the envelope (The PO BOX address)? Do icesave even have another address in the UK for royal mail to direct it to?

Hope this makes sense! & many thanks.

Yes .... exactly that. The Freepost address has a geographic postcode which pinpoints it for Royal Mail purposes. Just either use their envelope directly or tape it to a larger one ... then have it made 'special'. It's the same address they're delivering to ... but there are different categories for Royal Mail charging purposes.

HMRC at Shipley have several different Freepost postcodes (and several more hidden in the barcodes on their envelopes) .... associated with a non-geographic high volume user postcode. Doesn't stop Royal Mail finding them with sacks of special / registered mail on 31st January!

I suppose what I was thinking was, because it's a po box, that there may not be an icesave person there to sign for it..?! Not sure how po box addresses work exactly.

    Thank you again:money:
  • A very similar question: I'm transferring from Britannia to IceSave.

For the account number of the old ISA, should I put in the nine digit Britannia number? And leave the sort code bit blank? Or should I put in the sort code and all zero account number for my former Britannia standing orders, plus a reference beside the account number?

  • No reply yet?

Ah well, I'll do it as per the NS&I then.
