The reason for my thread is that I am at the hairdressers this afternoon and I don't usually tip and I always feel bad as I have known her for years and we even socialise somethimes. My hair costs £36.50 every 6 weeks so I figure she is making enough off me already.
What are people's opinions on tipping?
I am all for it if the service has been really good but I begrudge giving too much as I don't tipped to be at work
Am I just tight or a good MiSEr? :rotfl:

Most hairdressers don't make that much money, and kind of rely on their tips.
Does your hairdresser friend actually own the salon?0 -
Hi,
I have my haircut every 2 weeks and always tip. If, however the service was bad I wouldn't tip. Equally when we go out for meals if the service is good and the food is nice then again I always tip. If the food or the service is bad I dont tip.
Remember to always tip taxi drivers, especially if he drives a vectra in the North West;)0 -

I have known my hairdresser for years and we went to his wedding night do the other week, I have mine cut every 6 weeks cost varies depending on whether he does colour or just a cut.
I used to sometimes tip a pound or two but he now cuts my DD's hair (she is 4) and doesn't charge for that so I generally give him between £3-£5.
Finding a good hairdresser that you trust is worth its weight in gold, worth a couple of quid to keep them on side I would say,MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
I often tip for the girl who washes my hair rather than the stylist.....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0

I always tipped my old hairdresser. Then when I changed, my new hairdresser wouldn't accept a tip (mind you, the cut and colour cost £160:eek: ), but they did let me give a couple of quid to the girl who washed my hair. This was in November so I just gave them a bottle of wine at christmas instead.1st April 2008 challenge:mad: xmas overspend = [strike]£254.05[/strike] £0:j......cc1 = [strike]£240.78[/strike] £0:j .......cc2 = [strike]£667.47[/strike] £0 :j ...amount owed to ISA = [strike]£1599.90[/strike] £0:jTOTAL TO GO = [strike]£2762.20[/strike] £0 !!! DONE IT DONE IT DONE IT!!!:dance:0

A cut and colour for HOW MUCH!!!!!
I go to a local college, a cut and blow costs £5, the last time I had it coloured it was less than £25Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I do always tip £3 which is ok, but sometimes as I go to the training school at a local salon, 2 people do it one does the colour, the other the cut, then I tend to give them £2 each = £4 which then I feel is getting a bit much, but perhaps I'm getting a bit tight.
No idea where I'm going to get my hair done now though as it takes all day & I work now, desperately needs doing too:eek:Comping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

I'm happy to tip if its good service and won't tip if i'm unhappy with the service. It would depend on how much the haircut cost and whether i felt i would want to keep going back there.
I am a part time beauty therapy student so think next time i will just use the college i go to in order to have my hair cut and coloured next time. It's so much cheaper and i think they put more effort into it.:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

I get my hair cut about 3 times year, it costs me £15 ish each time. I used to tip about £1 but dont have much now, so its usually 50p. The kids go to the same hairdresser and it costs £6.80 each, though she tells me to cut DD hair myself, trimmed the fringe but not risking anything else! I usually tip 50p per child when they go.
Meals I dont really tip for, got to be outstanding service, which rarely happens these days.0
