Bottle top collection Hoax ?

Options
Had an email circulating at work about someone collecting plastic bottle tops to help fund an operation for a child in USA. Colleague was asking for us all to donate out bottle tops.

I emailed the colleague back to say that these are normally cruel hoaxes and sent the links to some sites that I had Googled to show similar examples of hoaxes.

The person is adamant that this is a genuine request... apparently knows the person !

Any thoughts ??

Methinks it is a hoax but I am happy to be corrected.

well, it is possible to collect bottle tops and giv them to a company that recycles them and gives you some money, BUT typically, the amouns of tops you need to make any money at all makes it a complete waste of time. (think a black bin bag full for a few pence).

Now maybe they've found a better deal, but to be honest, I think you're better off spending the time doing something else.

yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.
  • It's a scam. The government makes more in fuel duty from well-meaning people transporting the tops around the country than the tops are worth - even if they were new.

Of course, removing the tops makes recycling the bottles easier (less effort to crush the bottles) so maybe it's not quite pointless.

It always amuses me when people drive to the recycling bank and think that they are saving the planet.

We had a local collection for a child's wheelchair - there is a (wheelchair) supplier that seems to promote this. But the lad was taken abroad for specialist treatment and the collection was suspended. Also have a mate who takes them to a residential home that is collecting them.
