I have bought one Motherese nappy & a inner liner from Waitrose. I am ordering from Ocado.com "Ultra Bio-degradeable Nappy Liners 100 per pack". I just need the nappy wrap which my local Waitrose did not have it on my son's size (Medium/Large)..“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

I had trouble getting the M/L size from Waitrose too, tried quite a few branches and I think they said that they didn't stock that size so I just got a Large and ordered some M/L ones from https://www.kittykins.co.uk to be honest I didn't notice much difference between the M/L and L sizes and was using both at the same time for about a year.0

Thanks for the advice. I am going to use the Large size which goes starts off at 12.5 Kgs. My son is 11.9 Kgs so based on your experience he should be OK.
The Motherease recommend that you buy 15-20 nappies and 3-4 wraps. I also notices that on ebay a few people were selling never used nappies & wraps because they bought too much. For a toddler of 24months who normally uses 3 disposable nappies for 24hours .. how much Motherese nappies would you recommend that I would need to buy?
How much do you use? Also how often do you do a nappy wash?
I will be drying my nappies on the clothes dryer.
I know that this is a silly question.. but do you need nappy liners (eg disposable liners) to collect the poo so that it is easier to get rid of it?“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

You should have no problems with that weight - I think my daughter was practically out of nappies before she got over that weight and had been wearing the bigger wraps since about 3 or 4 months old as the M size cut in a bit (others have said that these wraps do come up small).
We started off with 5 nappies and 1 wrap to try them out and built up to 8 nappies and 2 or 3 wraps a few weeks later. We just used that number for a few months and then I gradually built up to about 15+ when I saw other types of nappies I wanted to try. I washed when the bucket was full (about 12 -15 nappies I think) which towards the end was probably almost weekly rather than every couple of days at the start.
You don't need disposable liners - reusable ones can work just as well but I preferred to use a disposable one and a fleece one together, if there was poo it could just be flushed on the disposable liner, if there wasn't I'd just wash and reuse the disposable liner (apparently you shouldn't do this as there is a risk it will block up your machine but we never had a problem).
How long is your child likely to stay in nappies? you might not see the benefit so much with a toddler unless you want to use the nappies for future children. Although like you mention they do seem to sell well on Ebay so you could sell them on. the Motherease ones certainly seemed to reach almost new prices when I looked before.0 -
thanks for the information. I will go for the disposable liners as i can then just lift the poo out all in one go with less mess. I am going to buy 2 nappies and 2wraps and try them out. Once happy I will buy a few and gradually see how much I need.
I do plan to have another baby so they will come in handy then and afterwards I can sell them on eBay... so the cost will be almost nothing. So with this I have nothing really to loose.“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

Wow I have just had a look at the http://www.kittykins.co.uk web site and they don't charge for delivery.. so I am going to buy my stuff from there. Just wanted to ask. I would like to buy the plain white wraps but wonders if the poo staines come out from the wrap in the wash. It they don't then I'll get a pattern one.
Also is it better to get the air flow type of wrap?
Also again. I can see that there is a Motherease one size "dry" with polyester lining to keep baby feeling dry. Do they last as long as the normal one. I just ask because the Kitty website says about washing no more than 8 in the machine to prevent bobbling.
Thanks HappySad“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

HappySad wrote:Thanks Lemoncurd for your advice. I have seen the Motherese nappies (on the internet) where one fits all and they look good as they are adjustable and you don't have to go out to my another size when your child gets bigger. I'll buy a one of them with a pack of disposable liners and try it out.... Ebay sell them new for under £10.
I'll also have a look again at the WAitrose one size fit all ones as they to my memory look just like the Motherese ones and it will be easy for me to just pop to the shops and buy it.
Why do you need the net? It this so that you don't have to touch the nappies or is this because the net is needed when they are being washed in the washing machine?
By the way do any shops sell the Motherese nappies?
The waitrose ones are motherease! Waitrose stock motherease, they are good nappies and the wraps are pretty much about the best you can buy.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -

I like the popped ones best air flow I think?.
If you go for a two part system you will find that they dry quicker than an all in one.
You wont need to change the wrap every nappy chage just the nappy inside, the wraps only really need changing every 3rd nappy change, if they get a little mucky in between just wipe them.
I dry pail then rise in the machine before the wash cycle.
You will need to wash all nappies three times before first use this is to get max absortion.
Happy nappy shopping (wont be long befor ur an adict!)Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -
happy shopping :-)
i've got a couple of one size nappies upstairs that still look too big on splodge even though he's 14 lbs. they would fit him if i used the poppers etc. correctly but i don't think any of his clothes would fit over them, except sleepsuits so maybe i should start using them for bed, see if they last a few hours before he wants changing. one is a motherease, the other one is snugwee, it's very thick and is lined with something a bit velvety, it says sherpa and something else on the nappy. they both fit into a medium motherease wrap.
you might not need many wraps if your child does 'proper' poo, mine has explosive runny poo so a wrap rarely lasts more than one or two nappy changes before it's got poo on it, i'm not using wraps all the time though, i only have 2 that fit and we're using all in ones when the wraps are in the wash. i did think i didn't need liners because they weren't catching the poo, it was going everywhere but i've since realised that without the liner my baby feels wet and wants changing more often, and his skin could get sore from being in contact with the wee.
disposable liners haven't damaged my machine but maybe that's because they're in a wash net? bambino mio do a pack of 2 nets for the bucket. i have noticed that if a liner's been washed twice it tears easily (cotton bottoms brand, 200 for £4.50 from boots, the pack says it will last about a month but it lasts longer if you're not flushing each one), you only have to look at it lol! so if i washed them more times than twice maybe they'd come apart in the machine and the bits would come out of the net and into the workings of the machine.
as for stains, i've found that if a nappy is stained after one wash the stain will come out if it's washed a second time, also hanging on the line to dry in the sunshine helps bleach stains.52% tight0 -
Hiya,
Just a thought to those who want to "try before they buy" on the reusable nappies. My local council sells you a trial pack containing 3 nappies, 2 liners and 1 wrap for just £10. Sadly they only send one per household so you cant order loads! Why not give yours a call to see if they have the same thing. It's all about reducing the amount of rubbish theyt need to cart away.
