  • Thanks Zeroamp. Managed to pick one up last weekend and its lightning fast for printing docs compared to the inkjet that now is relegated to just being my photo printer.

10 mins for 10 pages at best quality on the ink jet now takes just over 60 seconds. yippee..
  • Thank you so much :D

my trust Samsung 2010 died tonight. I mean, I'm not going to grumble - it showed 7,800 prints on one toner unit (refilled a few times of course).

One of the cogs on the rollers jammed and spat out some teeth. Then cog next to it did the same.

tbh, the paper feed was broken and held together with blue-tac (I dropped it when we were moving) and the hinge on the paper feed was also snapped (my fault again).

So, the way I look at it for the Samsung: Total cost £37.99 + £13 for 4 toner refills.... that's £50.99+ 15.5 reams of paper (£31)=£81.99

Total cost per sheet: 0.01p. Now I dunno about anyone else, but if you can run a printer cheaper than that, I'd love to see it!!!

So, ordered the Canon. let's see what she can do ;)

Samsung lasers often have a removable bung to allow refill.
I gather this Canon needs a hole to be burnt and bung inserted to do the same.
Does anyone know any detailed info on this?

If you ask here they are a long established DIY supplier, a little less specific about Canon refills tho. Seems to be the melt the casing type of refill, for Canon, I get my Samsung powder from them.

    Arrived today :)

Question - the form had a separate section for the LPB2900i (the PC World one) to the LPB2900 - is the toner the same? They sent a 703.

  • the LBP5000 is a belter!!!

fantastic pritner - i got mine from OYYY.co.uk for £137.
  • Can I send off for a free toner if I purchase this printer online? I do not have a car and it could be a nightmare bringing the printer back on public transport.

I'm just thinking that you don't usually get a standard receipt when you buy online...do you?

    - £133 plus VAT = £157 + delivery £4.99 = £162

Mine is the 703, I think the toner is the same for both.

You are hardly comparing like with like as the 5000 is a COLOUR laser, and the free cartridge is worth a whopping £250. What you do when the second cartridge runs out is ......................anyones' guess, refills may be dodgy if it is a singe cased toner.
