Yes you can have an opinion but anyone who disagrees can have one too. Tough get over it. Just because you have an opinion doesn't make you right. Do you think you are the Pope or something seeing as you felt obliged to bring god into it..
What I posted was relevant. I talked about being a trained dog handler, we are talking about dogs here. I said working breed not working dog so don't you dare misquote me you arrogant little person. Plenty of people can control a dog it's not rocket science, don't judge others by your own low standards. And there is no law that says they have to keep dogs on the lead so it's up to the handler.
lol your are funny.
What has being a dog handler ot to do with dogs being out without a lead? Are you such a great handler that NOTHING would ever happen whilst under your control as you are such a wonderful dog handler? If so you are funnier than I first thought.
I just expressed an opinion which I have the right to do but you are seriously opinionated and think you have the right to abuse people just because you think you know it all.
Please do ignore me as you are acting like a complete idiot.
They say dogs are a mans best freind, with your attitude your dogs are probably your only friend!!
Now off down the park with your dogs and show how great you are by making your dog fetch!! lol0 -

tried to join dog pages but as i have a free email address they won't let me sign up.
i went up to the rescue again today and spoke to the girl who has actually been looking after the staffie everyday. we took her out with our collie again and they got on great - after our dog intially growling at her, but still no reaction, the girl thought this was particularly good as it was the dogs first time out the kennel that day and full off energy, if she was going to react, that was when it would happen. she was saying they have had her out with another dog and again there was no problems. so as far as she is concerned there should be no problems with other dogs but you never can tell, as with all dogs.
the wee dog cannae half jump. from a sit she can get eye to eye with me and i'm 6ft tall, so that will need some work to calm her down and stop the jumpy greetings. i think the only stumbling block will be our 17yr old daughter who is a big sap when it comes to dog discipline. if we can get her to be a big more stern then i don't see why we won't take her.
i reckon we are going to go for it.
only we were intending to pick her up next week when i have 4 days off to allow her to settle in. heres hoping she doesn't get snapped up before then. thats what happened with the last one we decided on.
many thanks for all the constructive replies.
i'll let you know how we get on.The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -

Won't the rescue reserve her for you for a couple of days?

they will only hold her for 24hrs for and it not this week coming, its the following week we would be picking her up.
i asked if we payed for her would they reserve her, they said no. if we did not go back for her she may lose out on a permenant home. it wasn't the money side of it, its the fact that another home could have been found while she was no longer on offer. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
Aww no, shame they cant hold her longer

But lets hope all goes well!

Our younger dog is a rescue Staffie. She's around 2 years old now but tiny (smaller than an average 6-monther) as she didn't have the best start in life. I can honestly say that she's the most loving and friendly dog I've ever come across.
She loves all other dogs, and will give anything to say hello. I also trust her more with the cats than I do our foster dog, and if kids ever want to pet the dogs it's always the Staff I'd recommend.
That said, she is very easily led. If the foster dog is kicking off at another dog, the Staffie will always try to get involved vocally. I can also see how the breed can be trained for dog aggression - she's very, very bright and eager to please, so I can imagine that if she was praised for aggressive response that she would soon pick it up. She definitely needs a firm hand and responds very well to formal training, or else she'd be top dog, which could potentially be a starting point for any aggression.
As for agility - definitely. We're hoping that an agility course might start somewhere local soon because Bo would absolutely excel at it - she's quick, deft and agile, and she likes to be kept entertained. She's done flyball before, and picked it up within 15 minutes.
Incidentally, she is rarely let off the lead except in enclosed areas. She's incredibly easily distracted, and if she saw a dog across a park she'd have no qualms in running straight over to play despite all of her training. I'd worry that she'd go to far, run into a road, or we'd lose her some other way. Some of this, however, can be put down to her lack of any basic training as a pup (her original owners eventually got rid of her because she 'wouldn't toilet train herself', for example) and, when we got her, there was nowhere safe to let her run free...particularly as we lived in an area at the time where Staffies were often stolen to order for breeding/fighting anyway."outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. inside of a dog, it's too dark to read" - Groucho Marx0 -
My family have always had Staffordshire Bull Terriers and as long as you bring them up well they are loving, gentle dogs. They have been given a bad reputation by people who bring them up badly and chavs. I would highly recommend anyone getting oneNot been here in years! Hi everyone.
