I was gathering up some items for a colour wash and asked my bf who had stayed the night if he had anything to fill the load.
He put in last night's washing including some brand new black jeans. Unfortunately he didn't tell me they hadn't been washed before and now I have ruined pink bra/thong set, some vest tops, gym kit, fleece top and various other items in that wash.
I am sooo p*ssed off. I am unable to get to the supermarket to try and buy anything which might help and now been called into work, so can't deal with the problem until tomorrow, which by then is probably too late.
When I asked bf were those jeans new, he said yes, I said "Wish you had told me and I wouldn't have put them in". Apparently he didn't realise you can't wash new black jeans as they will run so much dye. But then he still lives at home with M&D and they do most of his washing. But at 36 he should know better!
And I won't ask him to replace the items as it seems petty and was an accident, plus I am encouraging him to pay off his credit card debt, not add to it!!
Just needed to vent and get that out.

Trying buying "Colour Catchers". They come in a red box and are little sheets (similar to tumble dry sheets). You put them in the wash and they absorb colour released into the machine.
I used them for washes where I suspect something might bleed but found out by chance that they will also work on clothes that have been bled into. My daughter's "pink" t-shirt is now white again and a t-shirt that had denim dye on it has also now come back to its original colour. Both of these items had been dried and were being worn as scruffs so had also been washed again.
There is also colour run remover which says you should not use on coloured items but years ago I was given a bag of baby clothes that had dye marks on them. I would not have used the items as they were so figured the only loss would be the cost of the product. The dye came out and the colours were fine.0 -
I agree about using the Colour Catchers, they could catch this dye if it's still loose - DO NOT DRY YOUR CLOTHES - KEEP THEM IN WATER0

Pity I didn't know that, still hindsight is a wonderful thing. They are probably now dry as I put them on the airer and won't be home until 2.30pm tomorrow, the life of the shift worker eh?0

still worth a try with the colour catchers, it can't do any harm and it might just work.
edit - in the supermarket they will be near the washing powders but probably on a side shelf with the odd things like Bio-Tex0 -

My daughter's t-shirt had been dried but the dye just bled from that in the next wash as well. The colour catchers caught all the pink and the t-shirt was restored to its original colour. I had put them in the machine to catch some blue I thought might run. I had never imagined they would work on dye set in on dried clothes but that has now worked for me twice.0 -

Thanks for this thread - very timely, as my eldest boy has very helpfully put his black jeans (which bleed colour even though not new) in with a load of mixed colours  What can I say? I am always grumbling about being the magic washing fairy..... However I have told him (how many times??) about separating whites/colours/darks, but he just sighs and points to himself with a quizzical expression - head-to-toe black clothes and piercings [0

Thanks everyone for your help!!
Squeaky I will still be p*ssed off until these colour catchers have worked. Just rang bf and asked him to pop out and get some.
But of course I don't wish to offend anyone, so will amend the title.0 -
Thank you kindly
As an ex deep sea ruffy tuffy sailor I've heard and read far worse, but some people really don't like to see it at all, so it's best not to do it too often.Did you ask him to dump the clothes in some cold water?

Thanks for the warning! I have seen that word and similar around on the forum (all with appropriate asterisks) and so didn't think about it.
I certainly wouldn't want to offend.
I promise to keep it sweet!!!0
