Weekly Flylady Thread 12th November 2007

Options
Firstly thanks to Pigpen for looking after things for me during my rather long break from running the Flylady thread :T

Welcome to the weekly Flylady thread. If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it!

Following requests to start things steadier for new members who did not realise the tasks list wasn’t a must do, just an encouragement. There will now be level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 being very basic it has been requested that this is just one task per day, level 2 in the middle, up to 3 which is more advanced and time consuming. If you want to do level 2 you add the tasks on level 1 with the level 2 tasks, if you want to do level 3 you add the tasks on, easy peasy. Choose a level to aim for but be realistic, if you’ve got a busy day on or are just starting etc aim for level one, if you get higher then great, if not then not to worry its only suggestions. Every room comes back around next week. Trust me some days I'll only be doing level one myself.

THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.

Also adding a declutter mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do it or if you need to. This follows requests from members who are looking to declutter. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please let me know.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

27 Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding 27 items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

Ok here goes this week!

WEEKEND LIST

Ok following Pigpen's weekend lists I shall continue them, as Pigpen had done basically a list of an extra 10 jobs, no pressure to do any of them, just if you want to do more then you can. For those just having time off and spending time with family, enjoy it :)

For those who just enjoy the extra work, here you go (why not get the partners, kids or anyone else 'spare' like children's friends involved too :D how mean? :rotfl: ) Choose one or more of these if you like the extra work...

  1. Extra 30 minutes ironing.. school uniforms? work clothes?
  2. Change any bedding you didn't get chance to do over the week!
  3. Fill a bag or box of things to get rid of anything for the charity shop, bin or even ebay/carboot stuff etc
  4. Do at least one DIY job you want to get done before Christmas - decorating, fix something, shelves up? anything like that (our lists a mile long!)
  5. Try to make an inventory of what you have in the freezer and cupboards, might help make the meal plan easier
  6. Sort through one cupboard, drawer or other storage area
  7. Deep clean - empty and clean out at least one kitchen cupboard, wipe the items before putting them back or it's pointless!!
  8. Sock sorting (oh I hate this one) make sure every sock has it's partner, is there odd ones you have kept for over a few months who's partner is MIA that you should have flung out?
  9. Electricals clean up, right which hasn't been pulled out and cleaned behind for months? Go on be brave and pick one to tackle, the TV unit, Hifi unit, oh what is lurking behind that PC!!!! Vacuum that dirt out, make sure cables are tidy etc
  10. Bedroom blitz-right what is on top of those wardrobes? Is it just dust or something covered in dust? Time for an Autumn clean up there I think!
A REMINDER FOR THOSE WITH CHILDREN, DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR CHILDREN'S SCHOOL OR NURSERY CLOSES FOR CHRISTMAS? MIGHT BE AN IDEA TO FIND OUT SO YOU CAN PLAN WHEN TO DO CHRISTMAS SHOPPING, ORGANISE ADDITIONAL CHILDCARE IF NEEDED ETC.

Just found out one of my kids finishes school on the Tuesday rather than the Friday, other finishes the Friday, which puts a bit of a damper on my calendar which says 'Xmas Shopping for Last Minute Stuff' on the Thursday! DP rearranging when he's going to work aswell I think as he was going to work days until the finished for Christmas. Oh and DS1's got an extra day off in November for teacher training which I haddn't even noticed on the holidays list until I just double checked.
One day I might be more organised...........

Is it this early so I can make a start so I don't fall too far behind next week?;)

Have no idea how I'm going to get on this week with starting to work full time. Last time I worked full time I had no kids!

But I've already done tomorrow's tea so that's one less job for tomorrow and DH has done a load of ironing so hopefully we'll get something done.

Must do some more washing and then of course ironing and i want to do the sandwiches for tomorrow tonight.

I've also sorted out a bag full of clothes to go out with the recycling tomorrow.

    Right I'll crack on

    Jue

PS Glad to see you back lil-me (you don't kick as hard as pigpen)

Pigpen this doesn't mean you can start slacking!:rotfl:

    Please can I join in?

I work fulltime as does my BF (no kids) and nearly always end up leaving the housework until the weekend, when we'd rather be relaxing or doing fun things.

Last week, I did a load of washing on a couple of evenings and even that has made things easier this weekend.

I'm hoping that by following Flylady I'll be able to do most things in the evenings leaving my weekends to do the (hopefully few!) bits I haven't managed to get done in the week as well as having some relaxing time!

I've persuaded BF that this is the way to go and he has agreed that whilst one cooks dinner each night, the other will start Flying. If one of us is out, then the other will just do what they can and we won't stress too much if we don't get everything done, as that room will come around again next week.

What do you think? Do you reckon this will work?

Glad the kitchen is back on Monday - but I was doing it Monday anyway :D

I'm also planning to lie on my stomach and fish everything out from under my daughter's bed while she's away, vacuum the floor and put it back tidy. I don't think it's rubbish but it's gradually all just got into a muddle. No other spare storage space so it will be going back, but hopefully more tidily;)

Of course you can join in nic :) Sounds like a plan, should work if you are both willing to have a go.

Hi nic, welcome :hello: sounds like a plan to me too, it will make a huge difference to your life and no biggie if you don't get everything done, none of us do but God loves a tryer and that we certainly are :D

Tea prepared and on the stove cooking away - yum! looks like we'll be eating it for a week as I've gone a bit overboard with the ingredients  lol

think I'll do my meal plan whilst I'm waiting for it to cook...

Thanks guys. Am looking forward to having a go.

Have printed out the list for tomorrow (although it is very pale...new ink cartridges are at sorting office waiting to be picked up, so must do that tomorrow!).

Will report back on my progress tomorrow...

Welcome back lil-me, hope you will be very happy in your new home, with nice neigbours this time.. (still jealous of your red kitchen)

thanks pigpen for the encouragement and the laughs!!

Well, I feel great today. Decided even though the living room and kitchen looks a mess today to declutter the garage today. Took the DAB radio with me, binbags. I have about 6 boxes of books in there, left over from a booksale to raise money for gymnastics and other carboot stuff. Piled it all up in one corner of the garage. Freecycled magazines and kids videos.

The freecycling is not really taking off around here, the website is there but hardly any offers or replies, so here is hoping that someone will take the stuff off my hands

After 2 hours and after a trip to the dump tomorrow (with recycled cardboard and bottles and all the other cr*p) my car will fit once again into the garage for the winter :jump:

Now the [strike]whining, bickering [/strike]lovely kids are starviiiiinnnnng so better go make the tea,

it's amazing though how a bit of decluttering can make you feel so good

    Welcome Nic

    afternoon all

glad it's the kitchen tomorrow, i was going to do it this afternoon anyway as it's a mess after OH has been here! he emptied the DW whilst i was out this morning but for some reason some things have not come out v clean, perhaps the filters or the fact that i put the massive wok in the bottom so it probably didn't let much water through!!

i am knackered, dropped OH at the station about an hour ago and have just flopped since! my service this mornign (remembrance) was emotionally draining though it went well.

    so, the plan is this:

    kitchen list
dw filter, run and clean cycle
    recycling out
    rubbish out
s&s lounge (i.e. put stuff away that shouldn't be there!)
    WM - towels etc
update wedding evening list (had to half it due to lack of space!) & email to OH
put fruit to stew in sc

woohoo, just seen that the second present has been bought from our wedding gift list :) and my mum has ordered a bargain denby set from amazon so i've adjusted the debenhams list accordingly ;) hopefully if we can persuade oh's parents to buy us the same set we'll be laughing and have most of the denby we need (want?)

I do solemnly swear, I will get up early tomorrow and clean the kitchen before my shift. I promise I will not lie in bed like a fat walrus before jumping out with just enough time to rush into work.
