Slow Cooker - The Recipe Collection

I've been browsing through this thread for inspiration for meals etc and since my new slow cooker got delivered the other day (the other one has gone a bit kaput). Morphy Richards sent me a new one as they couldn't get the parts for the other one. So, I just opened the box just now to see what it was like, brushed steel one, same size, 6.5 litres. The only thing I noticed was that it doesn't have a high/low/medium bit on the thermostat. Just a timer, so you can set the cooker from 4 up to 12 hours I think. The rating on the slow cooker is 330w. So, it's like high setting for however long. It does have a keep warm setting also so if you are out then it is kept warm until you get in without spoiling the meal. The old one is 303w up to 330w. Does anyone have a Morphy Richards 48730 6.5 litre model with the digital control on? My dad said he'd take a look at the old one to see if he could fix it for me. If he can bring it back to life then I could use that one for stocking the freezer up and the other one for every other day use. :j“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. I'm just about to christen it with a sausage casserole so we shall see how it goes. Thanks Squeaky, took a look, no reviews yet but will keep looking to see if anyone writes about it.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. i had this slow cooker as my first and i didn't get on with it at all as i found that the cheaper cuts of meat came out overcooked even on the minimum 4 hours. It could have been my model or the fact that i wasn't used to using a slow cooker but i really wasn't happy, although it was ok on the casserole type meals. In the end i told MR and they exchanged it for the model with the knob and to be honest i have got on a lot better with this one. Be intersted to know how you get on.0 -
Well the casserole turned out ok. Not so good as with the other one with the knob etc on it. It is a bit of a footer when it comes to adjusting the time, say if you take the lid off during the cooking time etc. You can only set it between 4 and 12 hours, nothing less, nothing more. So if you take the lid off and you are mid way in your cooking time, and you want to add on an extra 10 mins cooking time then you cant, you just have to set it at 4 hours again or whatever you want to set it to. It's ok, nice looking etc but prefer the old one. It's only the first time in using, maybe better success next time. Oh well...“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. I'm doing my wedding gift list (yipppeeee!) and I just can't decide whether to put down Slow Cooker or not.
The thing is, I'm vegetarian. I've looked at veggie slow cooker recipes here and through Google, but I've also seen quite a few people complaining that there just isn't much point slow cooking vegetables!
What do the vegetarians (or anyone else!) with slow cookers think?

Sorry - don't know! Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding tho!Mink0

Congratulations
I'm not a veggie but I have tried out a few of the veggie recipes. For me, having the slow cooker isn't just about the improvement in the taste but also about convenience.
I can put all the ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning (or even the night before if it's all veggie food) go out all day and come in knowing that tea is ready and I don't have to slave in front of the oven cooking something after a hard day. You don't just have to use veggies, I made a lovely mexican bean thingy in there the other day (see the veggie slow cooker links in my signature), you still have to soak the beans over night and give them a quick boil, but you don't have to stand over them simmering them for an hour.
Hope that helps and doesn't just confuse you even moreWhen life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -

I'm going to merge this with the slow cooker thread so that it can be easily found by everyone through the collection links. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0
