which saucepans to buy?

i know this is not strictly old style, but i reckon i'm most likely to get some helpful advice on this board ;)

i'm after a new set of pans - i'm still using my student ones and am sick of having to scrub stuff off the bottom all the time! someone gave me £60 last week and i want to put a bit that i made at car boot to it so i hvae £100 total budget.

have been looking around and have heard recommendations, but i'm a bit stuck....

think meyer seems to be the best make around, but i am undecided between analon professional which are hard anodised, stainless steel with non stick interior or straightforward stainless steel....all ranges have on and off 5 set offers for just under £100

anyone have any experience of any of these? want to make the right choice as its a big purchase for me and they should see me through a good few years!!!

thing that puts me off hard anodised is that aren't they aluminium and isn't that linked to altzheimers??

advice appreciated :)

I used cheapo non stick for years and had to keep on replacing them. Probably gor a non stock stomach by now because of all the black bits that used to come off (no, I didn't burn everything!) ??? For the last 10 years I have used stainless steel and find them just fine. If you keep a fairly low heat they don't 'stick' and more than non stick ones. Having said that I have invested in an SKK frying pan. Very expensive but you can literally fry an egg in it without using any oil at all.

Had le crusset to start with but had to call in a neighbour to help me lift them on and of the hob ;D ;D ;D So changed them for much cheeper stainless steel. 10yrs old now and looking just as good. I never scour them, just leave to soak for a few hours with hot water and bio washing powder and it all falls off, alternativly deglaze a burnt pan by pouring in a little water in and putting back on the heat stiring, this also gets the burnt bits off. Don't like non-stick I've taken even the good stuff off. Had to convince the kidz it was black pepper in their dinner ;D ;D ;D

Hmmm,I'm not sure what to say on this one as my mum and I disagree when it comes to saucepans.I have had a set of real cheapie non stick for about 10 yrs and I'm only now thinking about getting new ones. The reason being that I've tightened up the handles so often when they have come loose that now the screws are knackered. My mum on the other hand has got a set of stainless steel ones that were bought as a wedding present for her and my dad some 30 yrs ago and they hardly stick at all unless the heat is too high when cooking potatoes. She swears by them,I have a set of s/s pans too but hardly use them as I keep using the old faithfuls.I know not a lot of help but I think it comes down to personal taste.

For what its worth I have used my prestige ss pans for 22 years. They are still going strong and the handles have never come loose.

Have had a few non stick fryers but they dont last as long.

We have those Circulon ones - Debenhams often do them in a big pack for £99 (individually they cost about £30) with 5 pans. Can't comment really about longevity as we've only had ours for 3 years, but they look as new as the day we bought them. Sometimes if you're lucky then they have the Analon Professional ones on offer - one day, one day..................

One word of advice though, make sure you park your car as close to the shop as possible no matter what pans you buy in the end. They're so heavy! 8)
