A google on "millet recipe" brings up quite a few options. I have no way of judging which are the good ones :)

Treat as any grain by cooking in water until soft for a carb accompaniment to any savoury dish. If you look at macrobiotic recipes you might find a lot of uses for millet. If I find any I shall post them here.

It is very nutritious and lovely to eat!

You have to rinse millet well, then toast the damp grains in a wide frying pan, over a medium heat, till slightly coloured, about 5 minutes. This brings out the nutty flavour. Then cook one part millet to 3 parts water for 45 minutes.

Then you can use them in place of rice in any pilaff recipe, or in place of couscous etc.

Leftover cooked grains make a good base for veggie burger recipes, as it solidifies when cold.

Yes, you can probably guess, bought in a Gillian McKeith phase. Is there a way to actually make these things edible? I add a sprinkling to soups and stews but only so much as you don't notice them so I still have a big bag full. I'll add a little to my flapjacks next time I do them too but would be impressed with an edible recipe to use up the bulk.

I love these. They make delicious, sweet porridge. Just add milk and keep stirring and adding till you have the right consistancy. Add a grated apple or pear and cook until it has a porridge consistancy. (Just a few minutes.)

We call it fruit yum. My 2 year old loves it.

Anyone got any ideas on how to make this? Or any other recipes using millet?

    TIA.

    Hi,the recipe I have is,
    100g millet
    1 pinch of sea salt
    1 onion,peeled and chopped
    1 cauliflower,cut into small florets.

wash the millet and drain, place in medium pan of water, add salt and bring to the boil, then lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
place the onion and cauliflower in a pan and add enough water to cover, bring to the boil then simmer for about 5 mins.Remove from the heat and drain, then return it to the pan and mash with potato masher.
Drain the millet and mix through the mashed onion and cauli mixture, serve warm.

Ummm, can I ask a stupid question?

In Holland and Barrett you can get millet in either flakes or grains. Which one is meant to be used in this recipe?

    Thank you!

Will do one of those tomorrow night! Already have tonight's meal planned. :) Just wondered what to do with the millet as I found a packet in my cupboard!
