Not much different to Makro. They sometimes have different stuff but then so do Makro occasionally! Surely worth a visit just in case you miss any offers :D

Haven't been to Makro, even thought there is one close to me, but I have been a mamber of Costco since they opened over here. I do like their meat, always found it top quality and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, since i moved, it's a good 45 min drive to my nearest one, so don't go that often, but spend a fortune when I do go.

Keep your eyes peeled, there are sometimes some amazing bargains.

I have a card for both Makro and Costco and as Ticklemouse said - their meat is really nice. We always buy our birthday cake from there - £9.99 for a large one and it is delicious. I don't tend to go to Makro very much unless they have got something special on the Makro Mail.

When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)

Costco pain au chocolats - lush! £2.99 for 12. Enormous 16" pizzas for £5.99 (you have to cut them up to get them in the oven/freezer.

I love the place and go as often as I can. Excellent, meat and bakery as well as the usual washing powders, tinned stuff.

Going on a Saturday is good, as they have lots of tasting stations!!!

    My thoughts:
    • as with all these places, be aware of prices elsewhere - you can usually beat moost prices by getting offers in supermarkets.
    • it may be stating the obvious - but make sure you add VAT on (if applicable!) when doing your price comparison.
    • Costco has a paid membership. If you are a 'light user' you may have to spend a lot to make any worthwhile savings.
    • So use a friend/or colleagues membership (they'll have to be there at the checkout with you, though!).
    • Get on a friend/colleague's card as an 'additional cardholder'. This cuts the membership charge in half, I think.
    • Get hold of Costco's special offersz booklets. They have details of special offers on certain days. You may get lucky and spot something you need.
    • decide what you need before you go!
    • . . and buy some cookies and muffins - regardless of price. They're AWESOME!!

Stick with Makro. Costco have a limited range and unless you run a business and/or consume large amounts of foodstuffs it isn't worth the membership which you have to renew each year (£24ish).

We went to Makro today - 1st time since christmas and to be honest, it has completely done down to what it used to be (Manchester store). I only went to keep my card active. Makro you get your membership for free and with Costco you have to pay yearly.
  • The only area that Costco sometimes wins on is that they will have unusual items from america, that are not on sale here. Apart from that, it's very hit or miss.
