My Clio revs slightly (approx 5-10,000) lately when it is first started and stationary and Im not pressing the accelerator at all, my boyfriend said this is normal though to heat the oil up, is this true?0

10,000 RPM is cannot be descrived as 'revs slightly' !!!"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I thought all cars rev higher on their own when they are first started, and you will probably notice more now its slightly colder out, think it has something to do with the automatic choke:beer:0

Yeah it is only recently Ive noticed that it revs more when started - like you said probably because of the cold! Thanks0

Maybe its got a jet engine?
OP, impossible to give an actual diagnosis from the description, one would need to see the car for that. Likely to be the coil, but not definite, so take it to a garage and let them sort it. Coils aren't usually too expensive.0 -
Coil pack probably...0

determining wich coil pack though is the quiestion as clio's have an ignition coil for every plug! or the engine may be of older type wich will be of blocktype with leads to sparky's .car is in limp home mode if doesnt go over 2.000rpm's. will idle slighlty high on cold start up anyway every car does that and even higher if aircon is switched on too when cold., could be bat, or alternator to get garage to look at it. revs shouldnt be irratic though and rev on its own (idle speed control valve possibly) get to garage fault code read..0

I'm also having a similar problem with my 53 reg clio 1.2 16v, and from what I've read its a very common problem with clios. Check out this thread for possible causes/solutions: http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20950
My cars been in the garage all this week but they've not been able to fix it. Fault code is P0225. They've tried the throttle pedal assembly, removed security box, replaced loom from throttle body to ECU, changed over throttle body and crank angle sensor - all failed to rectify the fault. They also took the ECU to Renault dealer and had them check it out and reported no fault. They now suspect that it could be the loom from the pedal to the ECU but cannot be certain. According to the guy they spoke to at the main dealer the loom alone costs £400-£500 but he suggested making your own up instead. Anyone know a Renault specialist in Derby that would be capable of diagnosing the suggested wiring loom? I'd hate to have that changed out and find there's nothing wrong with it!0 -
Is the engine vibrating? My ignition coils have went 3 times in the past year (there are 4 - should've got them all changed the first time!)0

The main loom? Or just the engine loom? Either way, if the guy thinks it's so easy tell him to make one up for you!
In the meantime, I suggest you find another garage."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
