Can't go far wrong at that price, assuming your 9 yr old does not want to be a serious gamer on this computer!

I've just reserved a white one for my 9 year old DD, already bought a Samsung for my 12 year old son, which was a higher price but didnt want to pay as much for the 9 year old. Just need to get a better wireless router now to support 4 laptops.

 If you genuinely think I was 'shooting down' the OP I think you should get out more.

There are a few with windows 7 already on ebay for around the £220 mark. I'm not familiar with this brand. Holding out for an Acer d150.

I doubt they would be official windows 7 as it hasn't been officially released yet. Prices should come down once Windows 7 is released, particularly as XP is rather old now.

Only thing I would say about this one is that the battery life is rather low (3.5 hours claimed probably means 2.5 to 3 hours in practice). MSI are supposed to be one of the good brands in these types of laptops. So long as it will be plugged in the mains most of the time I'm sure your daughter would be very happy with it.

It should play most basic games, and even some PC World et al will tell you they just will never ever play (after fiddling with the settings to make the frame rate faster). See for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2qrN2BcV1w&NR=1
