I would have thought a small child would be better with a larger screen and keyboard.

A better option is a router which can control these sort of things (but it needs a bit of know-how to configure). Routers with this sort of control can also control times that the internet is available, so there's (hopefully) no arguments about how late they can use it till.

One of the things that may concern some parents is the inclusion of a webcam, as it may provide a means for some of the less savoury population of internet users to see your kids. Hopefully education and observation is all that should be needed, but I suspect a little paint over the camera lens would be the best way of disabling the webcam.

I would not suggest having the Router do the all the Parental control - which busy parents have the time & know-how? And 'bad' websites/chat areas are always changing, the better software solutions get updated on the fly like a virus checker. Kids under 12 are less likely to be able to work around the Parental Controls on the computer itself.

The only thing I used Router control for in the was turning off the internet at 1 a.m. to prevent DS from gaming till 5 in the morning - and you have to keep your Router pw secret form the more sophisticated teens.
