I used the 'remove my details' thingy on https://www.b4usearch.com I didn't put my phone number in though, or a mobile number, just a spare email address, it told me it needed my phone number but few minutes later I got an email with a link in, click it then got a message saying my details should be removed within five days. Hope it works, because I just got an automated response to my email saying I should use the site to remove my details.

b4usearch.com is the trading name of K.S.B Trading Ltd who specialise in gathering
information and selling it on to sell products and services to people.
b4usearch.com also gathers further information from directory enquiries
and combines it with the electoral register so an enquiry can pull in
both the telephone number and address of the person searched for.

Just remember when your Electoral Roll form comes through the post next time, to opt out of the public register.

About 1/3 of people do now and it means, sites like this cannot get your details from the Electoral Roll.

In this case, my address on there is for a house I lived in nearly 3 years ago, so it isn't exactly up to date.

As for privacy on the internet, if someone wants to find out about you, they probably can somehow. No point in spending much time worrying about it.

under the data protection act

http://www.ico.gov.uk/eventual.aspx?id=6789&expmovie=1

Your rights

You have the following rights which you can enforce through any county court:

Right of subject access

This is the right to find out what information about you is held on computer and in some paper records.

Correcting inaccurate data

You have the right to have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased, or destroyed.

If you believe you have suffered damage or distress as a result of the processing of inaccurate data you can ask the court to award you compensation.

Preventing processing that may cause damage or distress

If you think that certain processing is, or is likely to, cause you or someone else to suffer substantial damage or distress which is not justified, you can ask the data controller to stop that processing.

I would suggest that if you have concerns about this processing of old data and have opted out of the current and past electoral rolls them you contact them on :-

Helpline

telephone: 01625 545 745
fax: 01625 524 510
email:mail@ico.gsi.gov.uk

and ask their view.

I would also email privacy@B4U.co.uk and ask for your data to be removed and their reason for refusal if you do not comply, ask them to write to you to confirm that they have done so and give them 14 days to comply ( I would quote that you have suffered damage or distress as a result of the processing of inaccurate data )

Hi,
I tried emailing them and got an mailto reply with a fax number which would not connect. So I've now sent a letter to their Broad Street address.I suppose you can live in hope but they'll probably bin it and wait for the ICO's letter to appear.
Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...

I emailed them and they emailed straight back to advise me to either provide more info by de-registering on the site or to fax them! I emailed back to say I did not want to do either and the email comes back as undeliverable:mad:

Im surprised I'm not on it, considering the online surveys I do. Neither is my OH, but he is if I Google his name.

BUT, I find people who regard their addresses etc as sacrosanct, on 192
