New ebayer got in a muddle, now in a dispute.

My Mum has recently joined ebay and has just phoned me in a right old state.
She doesn't have a paypal account and has accidentally bought an item the was paypal only. The transaction was on 23 Feb. At first she ignored it then she told me about it. On my advice she wrote to the seller very apologetically explaining that it was only her 2nd transaction and would it be ok to either cancel the transaction or that she could send a postal order. She seller wasn't happy at all but reluctantly agreed to a postal order, complaining that she'll have to make a special trip to the post office to get it cashed. Mum sent the postal order 1st class the next day, Friday 3rd March. She should have sent it recorded. On Monday 6th of March the seller put in a NPB report. Mum has contacted her since this to explain but the seller insists that she hasn't got it yet.
Mum has tried to respond to the NPB but it won't accept the postal order number in the box where it has to be written so she can't get beyond that page to give her response.
I'm at a loss now, I don't know what to advise her to do about it all. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Update... I've just had a look at Mums ebay account and the seller is no longer registered. Does this affect things in any way?

I would of thought that that indicated that there has been other problems with the seller! Are you able to input the details for you Mum at all?Weight Loss - 102lb0

No, I've just signed into her ebay account and tried to input the details but it just refuses to accept the postal order number.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0

Did your mum keep the counterfoils of the postal order? If she takes that to the post office I'm sure they can tell if it has been cashed or not. If the seller is no longer a registered user it usually indicates there has been other problems. I would do this one of two ways. If the item in question was of a small value I would put it down to experience and remember not to buy anything which was paypal only again. If the item was of a higher amount I would pull their contact details from ebay via this form:

and give them a phonecall about it. If your mums not confident enough to do it herself you can pretend to be her.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I guess it all comes down to how much the item was for! What was the item number?Weight Loss - 102lb0

It's item number 5667695099. I tried to copy the item number and got a pop-up saying "Cheeky! Hope your not planning to steal this pic?" .... grrr.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

She's already spoken to the seller a few times about this. The seller said that she had no other option than to file the NPB.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
I think the fact that she 'ignored it' for 8 days rather than trying to sort things out with the seller immediately means she deserves the NPB. I'd put it down to experience.DFW Nerd 0350

She has paid now though and still hasn't been sent the goods.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

I don't think there is much chance of your Mum ever seeing the item or receiving a refund as the seller is NARU. I think your Mum has been lucky, the item was only £5.99 so a relatively small loss.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--
