British Airways Exec Club flight sale: Redeem any flight for half the usual points

Official MoneySavingExpert.com forum insert:
If you're a member of BA's executive club frequent flyer scheme, now's a good time to spend your points, since the airline's having a half-price redemption sale.
You still have to pay full taxes on top, but overall this is a great deal if you've amassed some points to burn, and especially if you want one of the top-price seats.
Where can I fly?
Flights are available across all cabin levels and routes. To find one, log-in to the Executive Club, and look through the redemption flights. All cost half as much as they usually do, though aside from that there's little to suggest a sale's going on at all.
When can I fly?
Surprisingly for an airline sale, here there are no exclusions; flights can be booked for travel up to 350 days ahead.
When do I need to book by?
If you want a half-price flight you need to act fast; the offer ends on Saturday (28 Nov).
What about taxes & other charges?
The sale excludes taxes and charges; these must be paid for separately when booking, so bear this in mind when you're working out the cost.
Can I buy points to redeem on the sale?
Yep, BA has confirmed that you can pay for part or all of the flight in top-up points; it's possible to buy up to 19,000 of these points per year. Currently, the prices are as follows:
1,000 points - £31
2,000 points - £47
3,000 points - £63
4,000 points - £79
5,000 points - £95
This means that even if you're currently not a member of the Executive club, sign up before the sale ends and you can buy enough points for a flight. However, since the sale excludes taxes & charges, taking this route is very unlikely to prove the cheapest way to get to your destination.
Anything else?
As noted below, BA's site has been occasionally running rather slow on the back of this offer. If that's the case for you though, hang in there and you should get through eventually.
Thanks to cjt105 for posting details of this offer! Back to the original post...
Hi All,
BA are currently running a half price sale for redemption flights (i.e. those bought with BA miles). It's an incredible deal, valid on all dates, and all destinations. Here's the basics, from the email I received
-Reductions on redemption fares across all cabins
-Available on BA Miles only (not Part Cash Part Miles or Miles for Upgrade)
-Book between 21-28th November 2008
-No travel period restrictions
-Pre-registration not required
-Offer on all routes on BA mainline scheduled services with a BA prefix, but
not on not on services operated wholly or partly by BA’s franchisees,
codeshare partners or oneworld™ alliance members.
Their is running rather slow as a result, but be patient!
Cheers,
Chris.

BTW The taxes, fees and charges can be cheaper from Gatwick and London City than Heathrow on some routes.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Could be a Monday morning thing, but I can't seem to find any info on the BA website on this..can someone post a link please?
Thanks in advance!

Perhaps you need to be logged into your BA exec account to see it ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

There is no specific info posted on the website, even when you log in, however when you try and book a BA Miles redemption flight, you will find that the number of BA Miles required is HALF what it normally is.
This offer runs out on 28th November, so you need to be quick!!!
Applies to Return flights only.
BA website is 'suffering' from a lot of traffic because of this offer.
We managed to book two Club World return flights from Newcastle to Vancouver via Heathrow this morning, for next August...
£890 taxes/surcharges and 100,000 BA Miles....for flights that would have cost upto £12500 cash for equivalent flexible tickets!!!!!! (Minimum cost would be approx £4500 for non-flexible)
One cheap Economy ticket would cost approx £900 to start with.
Availability is going fast, as this is the deal of the year if you are a BA Miles collector.
They haven't done a Sale like this for ages (if ever) - the last BA Miles 50% sale on all available routes was approx 18 months ago and that didn't include First or Club World.
As my BA Miles were converted from Tesco ClubCard Points, that means each Clubcard Point was effectively worth 28p on my booking! (Sure beats 1p in store or 4p on Deals!!)British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
You do have to be a member of the BA Executive Club and logged in to see these offers. And it's very popular - you may find you continually get the message "sorry there is very heavy internet traffic - please retry". It's worth persisting - I got 2 Club World seats to Seattle in April for 100000 miles and £770 taxes - a £14400 value as you can change dates with these tickets!0

Good deal there
Was that Seattle for Seattle, or as a back way into BC? That was my backup option for a ski trip, but we opted for the summer visit instead.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
That was Seattle for Seattle although we also want to visit Vancouver for a couple of days so I did try to find seats to Vancouver (from LHR) intending to take the train to Seattle and back, but there were no redemption seats available. So we'll do it the other way round..0

I only have 50,000 miles. Would love to go somewhere interesting with my husband in March/April, but can't seem to find anything.
For 50,000 miles, you can fly to the States, but as an American, I'm there all the time, anyway. Canada, too. The Caribbean is also a possibility, but it looks like they only fly to beach destinations. My husband is from Yorkshire. He cannot spend a day sitting on the beach without looking like a lobster.
I'd love to go to some place like Costa Rica, but it looks like it's 100,000 miles to fly there. It's warm, but there's stuff to see and do.
We also considered Israel, but there are no return flights at that time.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to go anywhere in Europe. You can usually fly to those destinations with a budget carrier for less that what BA charges in fees. And my husband doesn't want to go anywhere too 'third-world', so no places like Bangladesh.
I just want an interesting, warm holiday someplace where there's lots to do and see (i.e. volcanoes, rain forests, ruins, etc.).
Any ideas?0 -

"Book before midnight GMT on 28 November 2008..."
I'm having a stupid moment. Midnight GMT - that's tomorrow (Thursday) night, right? Or is it Friday night?
