It's not clear whether this applies to fixed term that pays monthly interest?
Into an external account you mean? I don't know the answer to that, but the FSCS has only started to clarify the interest situation in the last couple of days. Maybe they haven't thought through all the possibilities yet.

Why should this take months to settle?

....hundreds of thousands of paper forms? (which have to exist and be signed by you in order for the FSA to be deemed to be acting with your authority); strict audit procedures (to make sure your money is being accounted for and isn't being misappropriated), probably handled by about 20 clerks earning £15k pa in order to keep your tax bill lower?

The process aims to accomodate and prioritise those with the most urgent needs for rapid reimbursement. When the time comes, indicate this to them.

This is a big beast. It's going to run for months and months, (even if you write to your MP). You might as well get used to it.

Hopefully not if the FSCS are to be believed...

Well, they certainly seem to be making the right noises!
So, this was the big announcement we were waiting for?

I'm afraid I still can't see why paying interest to those who are in a fixed account for possibly six months or more while paying those in easy access accounts nothing while waiting for the compensation is fair. Surely anyone can see that?

    Dear Icesavers,

Some hopes.... not in consumer page but look in industry page...

FSCS is doing behind the curtains something about icesave.....
  • What time was this anouncement produced, before or after we started phoning them and our MPs for answers? Maybe someone is listening to our noise and said "the peasants are revolting, throw them another bucket of scraps"

Maturity is surely the date the bank is declared in default? After that point one can't be said to have an account to mature by definition - that is the meaning of default.

I have desperately been trying to keep up with these threads but unfortunately my husband is poorly in hospital so I don't have a great deal of time to spare. So apologies if this has been raised/discussed on one of the other Icesave threads.

I am not very experienced or knowledgeable about ISA's and Fixed Bonds. But aren't our contracts with Icesave now broken/null and void? To me we should surely be allowed to recover our money without being told it will be held until original maturity dates? I for one would feel much happier having it back in my bank account to feel free to do with it as I wish!

The latest announcement came just in time, my husband works for the FSA and I was about to post the home/mobile telephone numbers of all the Top Dogs so everyone could make someone happy with a phone call!!!
  • I honestly can't see what good it will do emailing or phoning MP's or FSCS, nor marching on Downing Street. I know some people are worried about their day to day situation and are reliant on their Icesave savings for income, and I truely feel for them. That said, it has only been 12 days and I think it a bit premature to be thinking that it can all be sorted in a couple of weeks.

Hmmm, giving everbody the numbers of your poorly husbands colleagues and bosses was never going to do much for his CV.
