ah pity you're far away, I like the sound of the orgasmic chicken
no, I didn't put any liquid in, just sat them on some veg, maybe it's just a cooking blindspot
I wouldn't mind some orgasmic chicken myself:rotfl: but in the meantime we'll just have to settle for orgastric chicken.
I can understand that with fr chicken it's expensive to experiment. I think you might be overcooking it, if it's totally falling to bits. You could try putting it on an upturned plate or just some scrunched up tin foil balls in the bottom of the sc, just to raise the chicken up out of the juices that it creates. For browning, I brush mine with a little soy sauce or a sprinkle of paprika, but if you want crispy skin, I think you might have to grill it or bung it in the oven just for 10 minutes to crisp up.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I love my slow cooker and I asked about the running costs on the Gas and Electricty thread a few weeks ago, and was told that - because slow cookers keep turning themselves on and off inside to keep a low even temperature they use very little electricity. I was told that -

Hi, does anyone know where i can buy a 4 litre slow cooker at a reasonable price? I missed out on the Antony Worrell one which was selling on Amazon at £16.00. I am tempted to buy one, but also need to justify outlay.Amazon No:170

I love my Slow Cooker and it will soon be coming out of its 'summer hibernation' - IYKWIM.
But, in your efforts to find cheaper ways of cooking, please don't forget the humble Pressure Cooker. I love mine and find that both have a place in my kitchen. Soups, stews and casseroles all done in a fraction of the time.0 -

Hi Mumzy - I usually prep all my veggies the night before and leave them in water overnight. I would leave the meat in the fridge and then assemble everything in the morning. You can use boiling water to start it going - that way it will help to take the chill off the ingredients.
I would definitely NOT leave 'raw meat' and veggies sitting together overnight in the slow cooker.
I have also cooked some things overnight and got up to lovely smells - also drives the cat crazy  ! Things like ham shanks are wonderful overnight.0 -

& if it's going full-pelt all the time it'll be costing at least twice as much as the calculation above
I suspect a faulty thermostat, & this might also explain the non-orgasmic chicken

thanks
I use mine to cook beans/chick peas. Soak, boil for 10 minutes and put in the cooker. Usually they take twice as long as the instructions. However, it doesn't matter if you simply leave it as it won't boil dry.
I did the best chick peas in mine. Yesterday I did black turtle beans. I use the cooking liquid as a base for soup. I simply add veg. Today I will add carrots and celery - both a bit bendy - put it on at lunch time and have soup for dinner.
I got my SC at a boot sale - never used and still in the box - for £5!
It makes lovely veg casseroles.0 -

Anyway, enjoy your roast.... you definately will have better crispy chicken skin than me!!
Same here, I dry cook a whole chicken on occasion in the crockpot - the secret is to put tin foil scrunched up in balls on the bottom of the crock and rest the chicken on it. I put 1/2 a lemon and some garlic in the cavity. The tin foil conducts the heat and browns the skin.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it.
