I think I prefer the mushroom variety. Mmm, mushrooms.
So, lostinrates, do you know any nice mushroom recipes then, in the absence of any interesting figures to chew over?0 -

Um, I make a great mushroom tart....any good? Very easy (but heavy on cream), um....nothing else specific, pasta al funghi, or risoto, nothing written done or specific to me bar the tart, not that comes to mind.0 -

Take some field mushrooms, some ceps (aka porcini) and a black truffle (black ones needn't be that expensive).
Stew in a little butter until soft and then take the mix and stuff savoy cabbage leaves with it. (Cut the stalk out in a sort of triangle from a leaf and wrap it around the mix). Wrap the leaves in cling film and poach gently for about 10 mins until the cabbage is cooked.
I've not made that in years. Last time I had them was with a really good bit of rib of beef down in Devon about 10 years ago.0 -

Ahhh, I hate truffle, seriously....I've trained myself to eat all sort of stuff I don't like but the smell of truffles is something I have real difficulty with.
To me they smell of the leaf mulch you get on the ground in a forest (that's a good thing).0 -

I know thats a good thing. However they don't smell like that to me. Apparently its not that uncommon that women find the smell different, I can't remember exactly why and if I try to recall it I'll end up seeming stupid (-er than normal) so I'll just say I think it has something to do with sex, or sex hornmones. Most things in life do boil down to sex or food though I guess.
(should have read hormones, but my minds hiccup was too funny to change.)0 -

You think truffles smell of sex.....?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
