Haven't spent anything today and won't be either, bank were meant to be changing some stuff on my account and managed to freeze it, somehow got confused and thought i'd been cloned, argh! Should be sorted by the end of the day apparently, but meanwhile it means that I am grateful I have plenty of food in already and we shall be eating that!
Will be putting the amount spent in my sig when i work out/remember how! But so far £140.17/£450 - feeling very pleased, nothing like keeping receipts to make you think about how you spend your money!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

Nyk - many thanks for showing us your spend - wow, makes our £120 a month for 2 people pale in comparison... must try harder!
Jakk - I think the 4 cans of Princes Tuna is £2.49 at the moment at both Somerfield and Tesco too. I also tried Tescos Basic tuna last week (only £0.30 odd pence) and this was fine mixed in with Princes tuna in a pasta bake.
I like Princes when the tuna will be a cold ingredient, and the Basics one when in a pasta bake, or a 'gumbo' (which we invent regularly! We add sweet potato, green beans, olives, sweetcorn tomatoes and tuna, mix with some mayo = dinner!)MFW #185

Hello everybody!
Would it be possible to slash our target to £90 for the month please? Major student financial meltdown at the mo and as I'm determined  to save some money up each week for a rainy day, our food money is getting drastically cut..! Possibly somewhat unrealistic though given last months totals but time will tell! Doing well so far though and a full kitchenThe 'market challenge' is working...

What a great thread! I definitely have to get involved with this. There is only me and my OH but we just seem to spend ( and waste
) so much money on food. At the beginning of the month it is always the same, we go food shopping and spend a stupid amount - £115 this month, we pick up loads of things we don't really need and alot of it ends up being thrown out. This does tend to last a few weeks ( we have to buy things like bread, milk and butter in between ) but I know we can really cut this down.
Well we've just been hit with a bill for the roof to be repaired which is going to be almost £300, money which we just don't have. So I've decided enoughs enough I need to get my backside into gear! At the moment I put away £200 a month to cover food, toiletries, cleaning products etc which I want to cut back, I just don't know what a realistic amount is for 2 people ( bearing in mind I refuse to eat ready meals/processed food ). I think maybe im too set in my ways - only buy "branded" products because I think their better than the cheaper options
Either way I have to get out of my normal buying habits! I have taken £35 out of the food budget to put towards the roofing repairs which leaves me with £50 for food for the rest of the month  I just hope its do-able!
Sorry for the ramble....GROCERY CHALLENGE!!October £150/£158.61

Peanut butter cookies sound fantastic! I couldn't pester you for the recipe could I?! I bought myself a jar of peanut butter as a treat in this weeks shopping but the cookies sound even better!
These are remarkably cheap if you use Tesco value pb at 45p a jar (approx)
A BIG thank you to Angelnikki who did the conversions for me!:T :A
1/2 cup / 125g / 4.5oz butter or marg
1/2 cup / 115g / 4oz granulated sugar
1/2 cup / 115g / 4oz brown sugar
1/2 cup / 150g / 5.5oz peanut butter - I use crunchy
1 egg
3/4 tsp bicarb of soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 & 1/4 cup / 150g / 5.5 oz sieved flour (I have used self raising but don't think it matters much)
1/4 tsp salt- Cream butter and sugar and pb together. Beat in egg and then stir in all other ingrediants.
- Shape dough into balls, place on lightly greased baking sheets.
- Dip fork into flour and then press down onto the balls to make ridges. Flour stops fork sticking to dough.
- Bake at 180 degrees/350 degrees F for about 10 mins.
Hope you enjoy!
