What does "30,000 views" mean?

When a thread says "30,000 views" does it mean: (a) 30,000 different computers have accessed the page; or (b) the page has been loaded 30,000 times (and so if I have looked at it twice that counts as 2)?

Hi Gizmo, I reckon it's b! It'll count how many times people have looked at it................I think!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Correct. It is the number of times the page has been accessed by whoever and whatever PC....:)0

It means that the page has been viewed 30,000 times either by different or the same people each time - and to add to this, it also means that about 99% of those views are for those trying to scam the apple education deal!
The remaining 1% are the genuine students and MSE'rs who are thoroughly enjoying the banter!Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
gizmoleeds wrote:Well given how long the Apple deal thread is I must've loaded it up 50 times at least possibly 100. So if we consider an average user had loaded the thread 15 times, then that means only 2,000 different people have been watching the thread.
And as many won't have gone through with it that means that there are only perhaps going to be 500-1,000 MSE generated orders - if that.
But you forgot to mention the MSE'ers who are doing bulk order for ebay. Let's say on average 10 per order, although I've heard one guy orderd 74
so that would 1000 * 10 = 10,000 cameras.
Now the real question is , does Apple have so many _pale_ , if yes why are they not honouring it :drool:0 -
The guy with 74 was joking, and as it is a student website I suspect if Apple do let the majority of orders through they will do a proper check on anyone ordering several cameras to see if they are getting them for a legitimate educational purpose  or just stop them altogether.
I ordered one, most of the other posters only seem to have ordered one (I think one guy ordered 2).
I don't think many people have £1,000 in spare cash/credit which they are willing to risk doing this - most will find being parted from £100 daunting enough.0 -
Something extra to note: Because this is a very busy board, vBulletin has probably been set to store the views and update the thread view counter hourly to ensure the database server doesn't get overwhelmed with requests to increment a number...
That is why a thread created a few minutes ago, which has been replied to twice already, still has a view count of 0 because the view count hasn't been updated.0
