sainsburys scam?

i shop at sainsburys all the time (even though its more expensive than tescos and not as good quality, its the closest to me). quite frequently now i buy from one of their special offers such as a "3 for 2" or something like that. when i get home and check my receipt they havnt deducted the money for the offer! this is happening more and more. im not a very good money saver as i can never be bothered to drive all the way back and complain. has anyone else experienced this?

Sainsbury's are not alone in getting their pricing wrong - I do have just a little sympathy with them, it is very difficult to keep thousands of prices correct.
The only thing you can do is check your receipt before you leave the store. My OH adds verything up as she goes along so she knows what the bill should be when she gets to the till.
I recently complained (in Sainsbury's !!) because a shelf which was prominently labelled "50% extra free ! 750g for the price of 500g" was full of just 500g jars. They gave me an extra one free !

The final resort is to give your local Trading Standards a ring if you think the mistakes are becoming too frequent.

constantly! Sainsbury's are the worst for this. We always check our bill but are even more vigilant at sainsbury's. I would say at least 1 out of every 3 or 4 times we have been overcharged in some way (never undercharged). They need a kick up the backside.

I had the same problem as you with a 90 or 100% (can't remember the extact %) extra free deal. They only had the original weight item (Ribena) on the shelf at the same price (no extra free). When we asked they went into the back and brought out ONE bottle for us! The offer was still on the following week and guess what - still only the original weight on the shelves. I asked again and again they brought out ONE bottle with the offer on it. We have started having Ocado online and they are excellent.

IME Sainsburys are not very good at taking down the special offer labels on the shelves when the offer has expired. If you look closely at the shelf label you'll find an expiry day (in very tiny writing!), I always check these before making my purchase.

You need to check your receipt before leaving the store. We always do at Tesco and if anything is wrong we head straight for customer services to have it corrected. Maybe if you have kids with you or are in a hurry then that's not so practical.

It doesn't happen to us too often but because it has happened 2-3 times, we are quite careful.

My mother frequently has the problem at Iceland and they are not generally too helpful at correcting it (usually trying to argue that the charged price is corrrect - even though it doesn't match the offers on display).

sainsburys have done this for years, I think they do it deliberately because they know that they will make more money because most people don't check their bills. I shop mostly at Tesco and Morrisons and although it does happen occasionally no where near as much as Sainsburys. The only plus side to this happening at Sainsburys is that if you point it out to customer services you usually get the whole refund and not just the difference.

A friend of mine who always shops at sainsburys checks her bill when she gets home and then tells them about any mistakes the following week and as far as I know they are usually ok with this and she gets her refund.

I found the most annoying thing about sainsburys (apart from the price) was that you would find something you really like (usually own brand) then after a few months they discontinue it:mad:
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

We had this almost every week at Sainsburys. We don't shop there anymore. we always got our refund no problem but we would go in the following week and the same mistake would happen. They never seemed to correct anything.

yes, I've caught Sainsburys out at this too, often with the weigh your own fruit and veg. you print out the label, it has a price on it, but when they scan it through the barcode reader, a more expensive price comes up. if queried, they weigh it on their own scales and tell you the more expensive price is the right one. All highly illegal, I would imagine.....

mind you, I don't accept it and demand a refund for the difference, and have not yet been refused. Husband was completely mortified one day when I asked for a 10p refund as I was overcharged on the price of two red chilis...but I refuse to be taken for a ride by big businesses, no matter how small the amount!

Keep the receipt. Phone them up and they'll log it in the book. Next time you go, head straight to the customer service desk and they'll fix it.

If it happens at Asda they give you a £2 credit in addition to your refund.

It's a weights and measures issue - one for trading standards.

Go to customer service and have them check it.
