Porridge toppings

Options
We all know porridge is good for you. I love the stuff and want to know of different toppings/stir ins to keep it exciting. In Scotland there are a few trendy porridge bars with lots of differing toppings - anyone know any recipes?

Had a look at Stoat's Porridge Bars website of Edinburgh. Check these out...

I put stewed apple (tart apples like Granny smith/bramley) on mine and a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar, drizzle some single cream and a little bit of milk. Yummy.

If I can't be bothered faffing about, just a drizzle of single cream, a sprinkle of sugar and a little milk.

    This link looks good too.

Dried cherries are lovely but v expensive - I once thought I'd picked up dried cranberries at 99p, but when I got home I'd picked up dried cherries at £2.39  This is how I discovered how nice they are!

Dried apricots with or without some chopped flaked almonds

  • I am a Scot but not a traditionalist so I like no salt and make mine with roughly half milk and water and then either:

At the last minute bung in chopped apple, stir and then into bowl for sprinkling of cinnamon and a teaspoon of runny honey drizzled on so that it ends up covering the whole surface OR

bung in some whole hazlenuts and raisins to the pan and the hazlenuts soften a bit and the raisins puff out a bit and then do the cinnamon sprinkle, honey drizzle thing again.

For DS I mash up a banana in it instead

DH will only eat it made with water and with salt -:lipsrseal

This time of year it has to be free hedgerow blackberries and organic natural yougurt with a sprinkle of sunflower seeds

And for indulgence, a drizzle of organic honey
