Quandary regarding Milkman.

The problem with milkmen is that as more people ditch them the whole business becomes uneconomical for all.
I quite like not to have to cart milk around when I do the shopping , and I like re-using the glass bottles rather than generating more plastic.
It costs a little more, yes, but it is such an English tradition!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
I also get my milk from the milkman and I agree with all Mado's points. Furthermore, our dairy is part of the local coop, so I get dividend points too!
PS. Is it just me, or is the board moving really S - L - O - W - L - Y tonight?0_o0 -
The board has been very slow all day. One of the three main servers is down. I get 3 litres of milk for £1.19. It has always been more from the milkman, even years ago.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

You can buy nice fresh organic milk cheaper than that from the supermarket but I agree it's difficult not to feel guilty about the milkman. I did the same as one of the above posters suggested, cut down by about half my usual order and then, when he retired, didn't sign up with the new chap. I think there's only one old man in our road who has milk delivered now. Times change unfortunately for some.0

I've never had a milkman and to be honest, I prefer to get my milk from the local shop. I usually buy organic milk and it's no more expensive than the ordinary.0

i wouldn't feel guilty - he's not providing the service you ask for, so why pay extra? married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090

i would ditch him too.... but im bitter i had a man knock the other week from the dairy asking would i like home delivery as they were trying to increase the number in the area.. as i know how much they struggle as a friends hubby is a milkman at the same dairy.. i agreed.. told me the minimum i could order was 3 pints a week... so even though i only use 2 tops i agreed and thought id just use more in baking etc.. took all my details and told me it would start "next week" - im still waiting! Thats about a month or more ago?! Am bit annoyed as what if id been relying on it? Now i just buy it from the supermarket or if my mum (who does have a very reliable milkman) has extra pints she wont get through i get some from her to save money and wastage!0

at the end of the day you pay the extra for the service - milk delivered on the days you want it - which you are not getting so ditch him and tell him why0

I won't ditch my milkman on principle. It's one of the last remaining old-fashioned services we have, like the window cleaner. Also, I don't "trust" supermarket milk - it's yet another product that they fleece us over. They are ripping off the dairy farmers who only get about 18p per litre from the supermarkets. In recent years, none of the price increases that supermarkets have put on milk have gone back to the farmer.
No offence to those who do buy milk in the supermarket, just another little pet hate of mine (Supermarkets being the prime target for all manner of rants)Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
