Our milkman also has dreadful problems at times with gangs following him and stealing the milk as he delivers it. He certainly doesn't have an easy time.

I do a compromise as other posters suggest. I have 2 pints delivered daily (except Sunday) by the local farmer (further afield she can only do Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays). Extra milk comes in a big plastic container from the supermarket. Environmentally it feels right to use glass bottles mostly.

Although not strictly speaking economical, we do live 3miles from the nearest shop and I don't want to have to pop out for milk. Also, I feel for those who are housebound or who have difficulty getting out, so view it as a kind of community thing too. Very much a case of "use it or lose it" with milk delivery I think.

Our milklady is also a dairy farmer and a good friend who needs the round to help keep the farm going.

There are lots of issues with the simple "pinta" lol!

Right, I'm going to compromise as people have sugested. Drop my order down to ten pints a week to start with and see how it goes plus I will still get my spuds from him. That way i'm still doing my bit but also watching the pennies. Thanks everyone.
