Quandary regarding Milkman.

Just paid my Milkman and have been told cost of a pint going up by 2p to 42p. I get 2xpints per day of milk and a 1/2 big bag of spuds per fortnight. He doesn't deliver everyday so sometimes I have as much as six pints on my doorstep on Fri to cover the weekend. Now I did say to him the whole point of me using him was to have fresh milk daily but he says he can't deliver to me everyday because theres only a few of us who use him in my area.
So do I stick with him and swallow the extra, I know its not alot and I have been using him for 4 years now but milk in the supermarket is so much cheaper and I could get me spuds from the farm shop when I get the meat.

A difficult one. Certainly cheaper in the supermarket but would you need to drive the extra miles to get it.0

The guilt is already eating me away just thinking about getting rid of him. I know how hard they struggle.Rebel No 220

It's a difficult one. I find it cheaper to get milk from the milkman. I want it fresh, and nipping to the shop costs so much more in other things which drop into the basket, lol!! As I hadnt realised I needed them before I saw them, I could have done without!
It's the same with papers. Newsagents make hardly anything on selling you a paper or delivering one to you. But they know that you will walk past all their other goodies as you go to buy your paper or pay your paper bill!*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

I'd ditch the milkman. Infact I did about 8 years ago when I got fed up with paying over the odds for dodgy service.
I use 4-6 pints a day and buy it all on a Tuesday when I'm in Tesco. If you do a supermarket shop using a car once a week or have you order delivered getting milk this way is little hassle and you can get clubcard point on your milk bill.
Left in the bottom of the fridge it easily lasts a week. If the fridge is a bit chocca I stick it in the freezer and defrost as needed by leaving on the drainer for a few hours and then slo-defrosting in the fridge overnight. HTHLife's a beach! If he really wanted your custom he would deliver everyday IMHO, or at least on Saturday if not Sunday. We only use 2 pints per week so my milkman was pensioned off years ago.0 -
I know how difficult it is to ditch the milkman. I was only able to do it when our regular milkman retired and the guy who bought over the milk round couldn't get out of his bed to deliver the milk, so it was easy then.
When I had milk delivered, I used to pour pints of it down the sink in the summer. It would be sitting on the lorry in the beating sun until it was delivered. Nobody would drink it because it would taste a bit off.
Now I just buy four litres with the longest date I can get and it does me all week. If I don't need any then I don't buy any, so there's no waste and as the supermarkets get their milk delivered in covered lorries, it never tastes off.0 -
What about reducing the amount from the milkman and buying the rest at the supermarket? This is what I do, have 4 pints off the milkman which saves me having to go to the local shops with the little one and stuff ending up in my basket like mumthewords said, and I top it up from supermarket when we do our weekly shop.0
